Redmi Note 8 is a budget phone with quad-camera setup at the back. Redmi series has big custom development, if you have used any other Redmi Note phone, then you probably know about it. And now here we will guide you to Root Redmi Note 8. Let’s start with the phone details.

Redmi Note 8 – Specifications

It features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution. The device runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie and upgradable to MIUI 11ย based on Android 10. Redmi Note 8 powered with Snapdragon 665 processor with integrated Adreno 610 GPU. It is coupled with 4GB and 6GB RAM options along with 64GB & 128GB of internal storage.

Now coming to its camera section, it has a quad-camera setup at the back. And it includes 64-megapixel primary camera, 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera. At the front, it has a 13-megapixel selfie camera that can record 1080p videos at 30fps.

Rooting will modify the system, and it will give users access to system settings which is restricted by default. After rooting, you will have full control like removing pre-installed apps, taking a full backup, applying custom fonts and more features. So if you want to get extra features on your phone, then you can achieve it by rooting the phone.

How to Root Redmi Note 8

There are more than one ways to root an Android phone. Some phone brand does not let unlock bootloader, which restricts users from rooting. But thankfully Xiaomi allows unlocking bootloader on all of its phones including the Redmi Note 8. I will be using the Magisk tool, which is recommended for systemless rooting. I will explain two different methods to root the Redmi Note 8. First with only Magisk and second with TWRP Recovery and Magisk.

To begin the rooting, you need first to follow the requirements which let you know about the necessary tools which you need while rooting the Redmi Note 8.

Prerequisites:

Root Redmi Note 8 with Magisk

To root with Magisk, first, we need to create a patched boot image and then install it through ADB.

Step 1) Download Stock Firmware for your phone.

Step 2) Extract the boot.img from downloaded Firmware.

Step 3) Copy the boot.img to your phone storage.

Step 4) Now install the Magisk Manager APK on your Redmi Note 8.

Step 5) Open Magisk Manager App, click on the first Install button and again click the Install button. root Redmi Note 8

Step 6) Now in select method, choose ‘Select and Patch a File’ and locate the boot.img. how to root Redmi Note 8

Step 7) It will patch the boot image and save the output to Download folder with name magisk_patched.img.

Step 8) Copy the magisk_patched.img to the c:\adb in your computer. And rename it to boot.img.

Step 9) Turn off your phone and boot it into bootloader mode.

Step 10) While in Bootloader/Fastboot mode connect your phone to PC.

Step 11) In C:\adb location press Shift + Right click on an empty area and select ‘Open PowerShell window here’ or ‘Open Command window here’. how to root Redmi Note 8

Step 12) In Command window enter the below command to flash Magisk

  • fastboot flash boot boot.img

Step 13) After flashing the patched boot image, reboot your phone to system.

Step 14) Open the Magisk Manager, and follow the on-screen instruction in the App.

Step 15) It will auto reboot the phone and done, you have now the Redmi Note 8 with Root access.

It is the method to root Redmi Note 8 with Magisk by creating a patched boot image. If this method does not work, then use the second method.

Root Redmi Note 8 with TWRP Recovery

This method requires TWRP Recovery or any other custom recovery to root your Redmi Note 8. This is an easy method, but it requires the TWRP installation. So i assume that TWRP or any other custom recovery is installed on your phone, let’s start the root steps.

Step 1) Copy the latest Magisk Zip and Magisk Manager APK on your phone storage.

Step 2) Power off your device.

Step 3) Boot your phone into the TWRP Recovery.

Step 4) In TWRP Recovery go to Install, then browse and locate the Magisk Zip file. root Redmi Note 8

Step 5) Swipe the slider to flash Magisk zip and root Redmi Note 8. how to root Redmi Note 8

Step 6) After flashing the Magisk, go back to TWRP home and then select Reboot > System. Root Redmi Note 8

Step 7) After rebooting into the system, install the Magisk Manager APK.

Step 8) Open Magisk Manager and manage your Redmi Note 8 root access.
