Are you a Samsung Galaxy smartphone user, and do you wish you had similar AI tools that Apple has just released via the iOS 18.1 update? Whether your Samsung smartphone has Galaxy AI or not, you can get Apple Intelligence features on your Galaxy phone. Not all features will be available though.
In today’s article, we will show the best alternatives to the Apple Intelligence set of AI tools you can install on almost any Samsung smartphone. Let’s first look at all the AI tools you get with Apple Intelligence, and then later on see what alternatives you can install on your Samsung smartphone for similar AI features.
Best Apple Intelligence Alternatives for Samsung Galaxy
Now, let’s take a look at all the Apple Intelligence tools that have been made available for iPhone via the iOS 18.1 update.
- Clean Up in Photos
- Create a Memory film in Photos
- Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing in Focus
- Natural Language Search in Photos
- Notification summaries
- Priority messages in Mail
- Reduce Interruptions Focus
- Smart Reply in Mail and Messages
- Summaries in Mail and Messages
- Writing Tools
Galaxy S22 and newer flagship models come with Galaxy AI features which already includes many features from Apple Intelligence list, but with different names.
If you have one of the Galaxy AI enabled phones, you can use Object Eraser and Generative Edit (for clean up), Live Translate, Stories in Gallery (for Memories), Writing Tools in Samsung Keyboard, Chat Assist for smart reply suggestions in messaging and mail apps, set focus based on activity, Note Assist for summarization in Notes app, transcript for voice to text, Browsing assist for webpage summaries, Drawing assist to generate from drawing.
Now if you have a Galaxy phone without Galaxy AI features, you can still use alternatives to enjoy those features. Some features may require multiple steps, but you can get most of the Apple Intelligence features.
Google Photos – Best of AI Image Tools
The Google Photos app is your best gateway to access a lot of the AI tools concerning photos. Early this year, Google stated that all Google Photos users will be getting access to AI features such as the Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and even the Magic Editor. The best part about these tools is that they are all free and can be used on any Android smartphone that has the Google Photos app. You do not have to be a subscribed member of Google One to get this access.
Magic Eraser is better than Apple’s clean up tool. Samsung has this feature built in on the stock gallery app (for eligible models) which is also better than Apple’s clean up for removing unwanted objects from a photo.
The Magic Editor tool built within the Google Photos app is outstanding. With this Magic Editor, you can not only select an object and move it around, but you can also resize it right away. I tested this feature on my Galaxy S24 Ultra and it works fine. However, to get this feature to work, you will have to first back up the image you will be editing. Only then you play around with the image.
Apart from the AI tools, Google Photos can also create memories—a feature similar to Apple Intelligence’s Create a Memory film. In the Google Photos app, you simply need to tap on the memories tab and let Google Photos do the work. Based on the tags from your images, such as location, date, and time, it uses AI to create a nice small timeline that you can view and easily share with your loved ones.
If you may have previously uninstalled the Google Photos app, it is time to get this app and start enhancing your images with the help of AI.
Google Docs and Google Gemini – AI Writing Tools
A good number of writing tools have been made available so that users can easily communicate without having to worry about any types of mistakes. On the Android side of things, Google Gemini is your best friend. All you need to do is give it your text or paragraph, and Gemini will rephrase or correct it for you. One of the best things about Google Gemini is that you can make use of the AI assistant within several Google Apps such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail, and even Google Meet.
Samsung Keyboard also has AI writing tools but only for select models. So if you have an eligible Galaxy device, you don’t need to use Google Gemini.
With this Google Gemini integration, you do not have to switch or leave apps to make use of writing tools. But, what about apps and services that do not have the Google Gemini integration? In this case, you will have to download the Google Gemini app to make use of various AI writing tools. Sure, you will have to switch between apps, but hey, at least you can make use of AI writing tools on your smartphone.
If you don’t want to make use of Google Gemini, no problem! Another great alternative that you can use is the Microsoft SwiftKey AI Keyboard. This AI keyboard comes integrated with Microsoft’s AI assistant, Microsoft Copilot. With Copilot integration, you can ask Copilot to write you a joke, correct grammar, and even format your sentences. All of this without having to leave the app, whether you are sending a text message via WhatsApp or just general SMS via the Messages app.
Smart Replies with Google Messages App and Gmail App
Did you think that only the Messages app on iPhone can let you respond to texts with smart replies? Well, think again! The Google Messages app, powered by AI, lets you easily send and craft messages with the help of Magic Composer. Yes, all of this is done within the app thanks to Google’s own Gemini AI assistant. Apart from just the suggestions and smart replies, you can also ask Gemini to rewrite the suggestions.
Also, the Gmail app AI is powered by Gemini, so this lets you easily create replies based on the email and also lets you quickly choose from a select number of smart replies that have been crafted. Smart replies for Gmail have been around since 2017 and have gotten much better thanks to Google Gemini.
One reason to use the Gmail app instead of any other email client app is for the AI. You see, Google has integrated various AI elements into the Gmail service so that you don’t have to switch to any other email client. The AI features present in Gmail include
- Help Me Write: You can use AI to generate an email or reply to an email
- Smart Compose: This is like autofill but for email messages.
- Summary Cards: Yes, even Gmail can give you a summary of your email. Whether it’s an upcoming trip, meeting, or any event, you will see a small card that displays all the necessary information.
- Email Nudging: a simple way that Gmail tells you about emails that you might have missed and if you need to reply to them.
Notification Summary
Now, you might say, well there hasn’t been any app or service for Android devices that gives you a summary of all of your notifications. This has all changed thanks to the NotiSummary app. Powered by ChatGPT, you can easily and quickly get summaries of every notification on your phone. This saves you time and also helps you check through any notifications that you might have missed by clearing away the notifications panel. The app is free to install and is available via the Google Play Store.
AI Assistants
While iOS has Siri powered by AI, Android devices can install and choose from various options. Android has Gemini Live through an app way before AI coming to Siri. You can use Gemini Live for most of the task and it will feel like you are talking to a real person (not in every case). You can get Gemini Live for free, earlier it was paid, but now it is free for all devices.
You can also install ChatGPT, Copilot, or Google Gemini for all AI-related tasks. All of these AI assistants can easily respond to any query that you ask and can also generate images right away via text prompts.
Closing Thoughts
This concludes all the AI alternatives you can use on your Android devices when you compare them to the AI tools present on iPhones via Apple Intelligence. As the days go by, a lot of Android OEMs are adding AI smartness to their devices, and also numerous AI apps are present on the Google Play Store for you to check and install.
