How to Get Pixel Themes on Sony Xperia Phones [No Third Party Apps]

Google Pixel phone comes with a theming option by default which we can access through Styles and Wallpapers section. It allows us to change fonts, icons, accent colors, and more. If you have a Sony Xperia device running on Android 10, then we have good news for you. You can enable hidden Pixel themes on Sony Xperia phones. Yes, Xperia phones come with a theming option but it is hidden by default. Here you will know how to enable Pixel Themes on Xperia Phones.

The theming option is only available in Android 10 and it can only enable in Xperia phones with Android 10. The whole Styles option is not available on non-pixel phones, but we can enable some existing overlays. Although only a few overlays available but it gives the unique look with existing overlays.

Thanks to the XDA Recognized Developer niaboc79 who came up with this hidden feature. This may not be the best customization for Android but it does come without any third-party app and also you don’t have to unlock bootloader for this. So now let’s get into the guide.

How to Enable Pixel Themes on Xperia Phones

Sony phones come with stock Android and it also includes many Google overlays on top of Sony’s Overlay Manager Service (OMS). But we don’t get any app or user interface to apply Pixel themes on Xperia devices. So to enable the Pixel theme we are going to use ADB. ADB is one of the useful utility comes in every Android phone. It can do a lot of things that you may not be even aware of. Such as removing bloatware without root, changing parameters, apply themes, and more.

The below method requires the ADB driver and so you need to install it on your computer. We have a complete guide on it, that you can follow. ADB on Android is also a hidden feature that we have to enable before we can get the Pixel theme on Xperia phones. So lets first check how to enable ADB mode on your Sony Xperia device.

Steps to enable ADB on Xperia Phones

  1. Open Settings on your Xperia Phone.
  2. Now go to About Phone and look for Build Number or Build Version.
  3. Tap about 7-8 times on Build Number and it will show ‘You are now a developer’.
  4. Go back to the main Settings and search for Developer Options.
  5. Now open Developer Options and look for USB Debugging.
  6. Enable the USB Debugging to allow adb command for writing on Android phones.

After enabling the USB Debugging, you can use ADB commands for modifications. So let’s move this guide to our next method.

Steps to Enable Pixel Themes on Sony Xperia Phones

  1. Make sure ADB driver installed on your computer.
  2. Open a command window on your computer and connect your phone with a PC.
  3. It will ask to allow USB debugging on your phone, so make sure to allow it.
  4. Now you can enter adb commands to change any possible overlays.
  5. You can use the below command to change accent colors.
    • cmd overlay enable com.android.theme.color.<COLOR_NAME>

Make sure to replace <color_name> with your favorite color. You can use ‘Purple’, ‘Black’, ‘green’, ‘ocean’, ‘orchid’, ‘space’, or ‘Cinnamon’.

You can change various overlays, but you should know the overlay that you want to change so you can use the below command to find existing overlays.

    • cmd overlay list

And once you find the overlay that you want to enable, you can easily enable it using the below command.

    • cmd overlay enable [package.name]

After enabling any overlay, if you change your mind and want to remove it, then you can follow the below command to disable the overlay.

    • cmd overlay disable [package name]

Following this process, you can change overlay or modify overlay on your Android phones. You can also change overlays on other Android phones. The only requirements are that the overlay must exist and the phone must be running on Android 10. Listing overlay using command can reduce your effort on finding the overlay you want to change.
