Samsungโs Galaxy S24 Ultra is closing in on two months since it was released. And, as a first-time owner of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it took me a while to figure out and understand the new elements of One UI 6.1.
When it comes to the customization parts, Samsungโs One UI skin has a ton of options. It even has its customization service called Good Lock which has a ton of modules that you can use to personalize your Galaxy S24 Ultra.
If you are someone like me who is a first-time Samsung smartphone user and wants to know what customization options are available, you have come to the right place. Ride along as we take a look through the various Good Lock customization modules and what different modules allow you to do.
Before we begin, you need to know that Good Lock is the free app made by Samsung for its smartphones. Even if you have a Samsung smartphone that is either the Z, A, M, or F series, you can explore the Good Lock app and tinker around with the modules available for your particular device model.
Customizing Galaxy S24 with Good Lock
Before we dig into the nitty gritty about Good Lock, and how you can make use of the modules, let’s first take a look at how you can get the Good Lock app. When you get your Samsung smartphone the Good Lock app is not installed by default – which is a good thing since not everyone is fond of customizing their devices and simply likes to leave it in stock. So, you first need to get the Good Lock app, and here are the steps.
- First, you need to launch the My Galaxy app on your smartphone.
- Once the app opens, tap on the search bar and search for the Good Lock app.
- When you find it, tap on the app to download and install it on your Galaxy S24. If you don’t find it, search it in Google and then open from the results.
- Now with the Good Lock app installed, launch it from your deviceโs home screen.
- You will see two tabs at the bottom of the app – Life Up and Make Up.
- You can tap on the tabs and browse through the numerous customization modules that are free to install and make use of.
Now that you have the Good Lock app and also know where you can download the customization modules from, it is time to take a deep dive into how you can customize your Galaxy S24, S24+, or S24 Ultra. Don’t worry about the variant of the S24 that you have since all the customization modules will work just as fine.
For this guide, I will be using the Galaxy S24 Ultra to show you how you can customize the device using the available modules.
Customize your LockScreen Using LockStar
When it comes to the lock screen of your Galaxy S24 running on One UI 6.1 by default there are a good number of customization options. You can easily adjust the clock as well as add from a select number of lock screen widgets However, on the AOD side of things there is little you can do. This is where the LockStar customization module comes into play. Once you have downloaded LockStar to your Galaxy S24, let’s take a look at the customization options available with this module.
- First off, launch the Good Lock app and tap on the LockStar option. This will be present at the top if you have already installed the module.
- When you launch the module, you will be asked to provide it with permissions.
- Now you will see two options. Switch the toggles onto whatever element that you wish to modify or customize.
What Elements Can You Customize on the Lock Screen?
When you switch on the toggle for the Lockscreen via the LockStar app, you can customize a good number of elements. To begin the customization process, simply tap on the lock screen image. You will be taken to the customization section of the lock screen.
At the top right corner, you will see two icons. When you tap on the first icon, you can choose to customize how your lock screen should look when the device is in landscape mode. If, for some reason, you are just a bit too lazy to customize the screen, simply tap on the Auto Layout option. This will automatically adjust and place the widgets.
If you look at the lock screen screenshots that I have shared below, you can see a good number of elements that you can either add or remove with ease. If you want to remove any element from your lock screen, except for the fingerprint scanner icon, you simply tap on the element and then tap on the little X button at the corner of the box.
Change the Lock Screen Color and Icons
You can choose to either hide or show the system icons at the top of the lock screen. You cannot move the system icons bar anywhere. However, you can change the lock icon for your lock screen. Simply tap on the lock icon and then on the icon with 4 circles inside. There are a range of lock icons to choose from as well as the option to add your icon. And, if you want to feel a bit fancy, play around with the icon colors to give it a personal touch
Change The Clock Face Type and Size
One of the great things about One UI 6.1 is that you can choose from a range of clock faces for your lock screen. However, with the LockStar module, you can choose from several different faces as well as resize the lock faces. And yes, you can choose to move the clock face to whatever part of the screen you like. Do note that all clock faces cannot be modified or moved around.
Change The Notification Type
You can choose to either display app icons or the whole label that says you have new notifications. I would rather stick with the app icons option as it shows you what notifications you have received from the various apps you have installed on your phone. Additionally, you can choose to remove the widget, change the color, and also adjust the transparency of the notification label. It would be better to leave the colors set automatically if you have a habit of changing your wallpapers regularly.
Add or Remove The Now Playing Widget
One of the best and most useful widgets out there for the lock screen is the now playing widget. It shows you what media player is currently playing or streaming audio. You can simply choose to move or remove the widget from your lock screen. Well, if you do plan to remove the widget, you can always tap on the lock screen and choose from the various widget options that you can add to your lock screen, provided that the app you prefer has its widget.
Adding Stickers To Your Lock Screen
Lock Screen customization have come a long long way. From just having to stick with whatever lock screen your OEM decided would be best for you. But with Android 14 and Samsungโs One UIย 6.1, you can use LockStar to add a fun or personal touch to your lock screen by adding stickers. And yes, you can add as many stickers as you like. However, you can choose from a set of stickers that are provided to you.
The stickers can be scaled, rotated, and adjusted for transparency. However, there is no option to add your emoji or icon as a sticker as of now.
Adjust The Helpful Messages Section
With this part of the screen, you will see messages such as fingerprint or face ID to unlock or even your low battery and time left to finish charging your device. You can choose to either remove the bar, move it around, or customize it by changing the scale, transparency, and color of the message bar. I would recommend leaving the message bar at the bottom of the lock screen. There is no point in hunting around the screen looking at how long it will take to charge the phone.
Adjust The Quick App Shortcuts Bar
At the bottom of the screen, you have two app shortcuts. While you can easily choose whatever app you like there, did you know that you can easily add up to 5 different app icons? Or, if you simply want a clean lock screen without the app shortcuts, just get rid of it.
This is all that you can do to your lock screen using the LockStar customization module provided by Good Luck for your Galaxy S24 devices running on One UI 6.1.
Customizing AOD Screen with LockStar
The Always on Display screens for smartphones is a great way to view notifications and the time at a glance. If you wish, you could even call it a replacement for the good and trusty notification LED that used to be a feature on phones a few years back. Here are the various elements that you can customize on the AOD screen using the LockStar customization module.
Changing The Clock Face
You can choose from a set of clock faces that can be displayed on your AOD screen. Additionally, there is an option to even add the battery percentage to your clock widget if you like. You can choose to get rid of the clock altogether if you don’t want it. Unfortunately, you will not be able to move the clock face or almost anything on the AOD screen.
Change App Icon Notifications Color
The app icons for important apps such as calls, messages, calendars, and email can be changed. You can choose to have a colorful range of icons or simply stick to one color for all icons. You can adjust it by tapping on the widget and then on the bottom right corner to bring up the color menu. If you want, you can always remove these icons from your AOD screen.
Change Charging Info Style
For the AOD screen, you can choose from two types of charging info messages. Or, if you don’t want to display that on the AOD screen, you can simply tap on the X button to remove it from your screen. Just like the others, you will not be able to move this message screen anywhere.
Adding New Widgets
The AOD screen, just like the lock screen, lets you add widgets from any app of your choice as long as the app has a dedicated widget. Simply tap anywhere on the screen and tap on the add widget pop-up. Scroll through the list of apps and then select a widget. Your widget will be added. However, you will not be able to move your widget around on the AOD screen.
Closing Thoughts
This concludes the guide on how you can use the LockStar customization module for your Galaxy S24 devices to customize the lock screen as well as the Always on Display screens. You can also personalize your Samsung S24 to your taste not only with the LockStar module but with plenty of other modules that can be accessed via the Good Lock app.
