How to Use Samsung Routines to Automate Your Galaxy Phone

If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone but are not familiar with automation, you’re missing out on some great stuff. Don’t worry, in this guide you’ll learn how to automate certain functions on your Samsung Galaxy.

Automation is a great way to get certain things and tasks done automatically. On Samsung phones, this can be achieved by a stock app called Routines. If you think Samsung Routines are something you need to know, then here’s everything you need to know about them and how you can use them.

What is Samsung Routines?

Samsung Routines lets you automate several functions on your Samsung phone. With Routines, you can create certain activities to trigger automatically when a predefined condition is met. These conditions can be time, battery percentage, device mode, location, connectivity and more. Once the condition is met or fulfilled, the activity will execute itself.

With Samsung Routines, you can set an activity to start automatically, not only based on time, but also when your phone completes a set task or even when you reach a specific location. Samsung Routines lets you easily set your home, work, and other locations as a condition. When you’re at these locations, predefined tasks will be executed automatically without you needing to interact with your Galaxy Smartphone.

A lot of Samsungโ€™s Galaxy smartphones and tablets support Samsungโ€™s Modes and Routines. The app comes pre-installed on Galaxy phones.

How to Access Samsung Routines

There are two ways to access the Samsung Routines menu. The first way is via the Modes and Routines app on your deviceโ€™s home screen/app launcher. The second way is to launch the Settings app and tap on Modes and Routines.

On the Routines tab, you can create a new Routine that you like. However, to use the Samsung Routines service, you’ll need to sign in with your Samsung account. Additionally, enable the Customization Service feature to get personalized content and recommendations based on interest, location, and device usage.

Now that you know about Samsung Routines and how you can get access it, let’s take a short and quick demo on how you can make use of Samsung Routines.

  1. Open the Settings app and go to Modes and Routines. Switch to Routines tab.
  2. Tap on the + icon at the top of the screen.

  3. Here, under the If section, tap on the “Add what will trigger this routine.”
  4. Here, set the condition to trigger a routine. For example, I am creating a routine for when the device is connected to charger, so I will select the ‘Charging Status’ option under Device followed by Wired and Wireless Charging. Tap Done.

  5. Now tap on the section that says “Add what this routine will do.” This will the the action that will be executed when If condition is met.
  6. Scroll and tap on the action you want to choose. Here I am selecting Effects > Edge lighting effect once, which will ensure the effect will trigger when my phone is connected to charger.

  7. Now choose additional actions based on your selection. For example, I’ll have choose the type of Edge Lighting effect.

  8. Once all changes have been made, tap on Done, followed by Save.
  9. You can give a name for this Routine and also set an icon color or choose an image of your choice from the gallery app.

  10. Now, when you plug your Galaxy smartphone into the charger, either wired or wirelessly, the edge lighting will appear once on your screen and disappear, indicating that your device is now charging.

Note: You can add multiple If conditions as well as multiple Then actions.

While Samsung Routines is specific to Galaxy smartphones and tablets, On other Android smartphones, you can use apps such as Tasker and IFTTT, which are available for free via the Google Play Store.
