How to Install Oxygen OS on Nokia 7.2 and other Nokia devices

Nokia owned by HMD global is trying to create a stronghold in the Smartphone market. And Nokia is not missing any chance to prove its worth. There are many impressive Nokia phones in the market such as Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7.2, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 8, Nokia 8.1 and more. The only missing piece on the Nokia phones is that Nokia doesn’t let users unlock bootloader. But it is not impossible, you can still get it unlocked by paying a few bucks to professional. Recently due to a bug in the Nokia 7.2 Firmware, it was possible to unlock bootloader for free. We have also posted a guide that you can read here. Talking about the Oxygen OS then it is the second best optimized UI after the stock OS. But if you count the customization feature then the Oxygen OS can rule out the Stock OS easily. So if you want to get Oxygen OS on your Nokia device to experience an amazing OS.

The method that I am going to share required the bootloader to be unlocked on the Nokia phone that you have. Oxygen OS is available for Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 6.2, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1, and Nokia 7.2. After installing the Oxygen OS you won’t like to go back to Nokia’s default Stock OS. And the Oxygen OS is based on Android 10 which is extracted from OnePlus 6. Let get you to the download links for OxygenOS.

Oxygen OS is a popular ROM and it is ported from OnePlus 6 running on Android 10 open Beta. And the good thing about the ROM is that all the features are working perfectly. All thanks to the Raghu varma for porting the amazing ROM for Nokia phones. Below is the list of devices that support the Oxygen OS ROM.

  • Nokia 6.2
  • Nokia 7 Plus

After downloading all the files for your phone keep it in one place for convenience. ROM is common for all the listed Nokia phones but other images files are different so download carefully for your phone. Make sure to follow the requirements before moving to the steps.

Prerequisites:

  • Take a full backup of your phone
  • TWRP or a custom recovery should be installed
  • Vbmeta is required for Nokia 6.2 & Nokia 7.2
  • GApps is included in the ROM so no need to install it
  • Install ADB & Fastboot driver on your PC

How to Install Oxygen OS ROM on Nokia Phones

  1. After backing up the data power off your phone device.
  2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. Press & hold Volume Up + Power button together.
  4. Release both buttons when you see the TWRP logo.
  5. Once the device in TWRP, go to Wipe > Format Data and enter ‘Yes’.
  6. Then go to Reboot > Bootloader.
  7. Again boot into TWRP and go to Wipe > Advance Wipe, select everything and wipe.
  8. Connect your phone to PC when it is in TWRP Recovery and copy Oxygen OS ROM, boot image, vendor image, and vbmeta image (for Nokia 7.2 & 6.2).
  9. Now in TWRP Recovery go to Install > Install Image and select ROM, Boot Image, and vendor Image.
  10. Flash all the three images on your phone.
  11. Go to Wipe > Advance Wipe again and select everything except System & Vendor.
  12. Except for Nokia 6.2 & 7.2 reboot your phone to the system (Reboot > System), that’s all. For Nokia 6.2 & 7.2 follow further steps. No need to follow further steps for other phones.
  13. Go to Reboot > Bootloader and connect your phone to PC. Copy the vbmeta.img file to your PC (C:\adb).
  14. Go to C:\adb and press Shift + Right click on an empty area and select ‘Open Command window here’ or ‘Open PowerShell window here’.
  15. In the command window enter
    • fastboot getvar all
  16. Now you will get the A or B, which is the active partition. Remember it is A or B. If it is A then enter the first command or enter the second command if it is B
    • fastboot flash vbmeta_a --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta.img
    • fastboot flash vbmeta_b --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta.img
  17. Now reboot your phone to the system using below command
    • fastboot reboot
  18. That’s all.

Now you can enjoy Oxygen OS on your Nokia phone. The Oxygen OS ROM contains everything including the OnePlus 6 Wallpapers and more.
