The wait is over! Samsung has finally introduced a new version of its custom skin One UI โ One UI 5.0 at its annual developer conference. Yes, the new One UI 5 is based on Android 13. The latest version of One UI comes with a flurry of new customization features, more wallpaper choices, widget stacking, new modes and routines, improved multitasking, smoother animations, new camera features, and more.

In August, Samsung originally started testing One UI 5 on the Galaxy S22. The beta program later expanded to the Galaxy S21 and the mid-ranger Galaxy A52. The testing is in the final phases on the Galaxy S22 and will be available to everyone by the end of this month. Speaking of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy A52, as per the previous trends, the new skin will be available first to the Galaxy S21, hopefully in a month or two, whereas, it may take a little longer for Galaxy A52.
One UI 5 Release Announcement
Samsung finally introduced the One UI 5.0 at Samsung Developer Conference 22 on October 12. The South Korean tech giant shows off its latest software technologies including SmartThings, Knox Matrix for enhanced security, Bixby upgrades, Bixby Home Studio, Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Gaming Hub, and One UI 5.0.
As I said earlier, the Galaxy S22 will be the first smartphone to get a taste of One UI 5.0. Samsung confirms the release date of the new skin, it will be available by the end of this month. If you own the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, or Galaxy S22 Plus, your phone will receive the new Android 13-centric One UI 5 soon.

One UI 5.0 lets you easily customize the lock screen of your Galaxy smartphone, yes, you can customize everything available on the lock screen.
The new customization tools for the lock screen let you change clock style, notifications settings, live wallpapers tools, new colors and graphics, dynamic lock screens, more color palettes for the home screen, improvements for call backgrounds, and more.
Samsung releases some new colorful backgrounds with the One UI 5.0, which are already available to us, you can try the new backgrounds on your phone if you want.
Good Lock is one of the best tools available on Galaxy devices with best-in-class personalization tools. Samsung at SDC says, more new features are coming to Good Lock soon.
Routines and Modes
One UI 5.0 comes with customized build routines so that you can stay focused on what you are working on. Modes let you pick a mode on based on what you are doing, suppose you can set a sleep mode to cut down all notifications beeps, and calls while you are sleeping, Exercise mode, Driving mode, a dedicated mode for gamers, and many more.
The best part is, the modes will automatically be applied to the other connected Galaxy devices, suppose you own a Galaxy Watch or a Galaxy tablet, then the same mode will be applied to your other connected devices.
Better Multitasking
One UI 5 also brings some new productivity tools including better multitasking. The new options let you change the view with a swipe of a gesture and also let you quickly open apps in a split screen. Here you can know more about the multitasking features of the Galaxy Fold 4.
New Camera Features
The camera app on Galaxy phones gets a bunch of new features including Histogram in Pro mode, the option to zoom with one hand, support to add watermark to images, food mode gets Telephoto lens support, and users can easily select filters in the camera app.
Widgets Improvements
Last year, Samsung revamped widgets on the One UI 4. Now, the firm brings widget stacking support to the One UI 5. Not only this, but it also brings smart suggestions widget, Samsung says, โIt suggests apps to use, people to call, calendar events to add, and more, based on your usage patterns.โ
Apart from these features, One UI 5.0 comes with updated app icons and illustrations, improved and smoother animations across the system, improved blur effects, connected experience across Galaxy devices, new photo editing tools including enhanced GIF editing, more sticker options, improvements to Samsung Keyboard, Optical Character Recognition for gallery app, copy text from screenshots, new taskbar for Samsung DeX, improved design layout in the notification panel, better privacy features, and more.
One UI 5.0 Eligible Devices
There are a lot of phones that were eligible for the One UI 4 update including many entry-level phones such as Galaxy M01, Galaxy A12, etc. One UI 5 will also be available to many Galaxy phones.
Phones that were released the last year 2021 or this year 2022 will definitely get the Android 13 based One UI 5.0. So if you have a new phone then you donโt need to look for the list because your phone is eligible for the update.
Now coming to the old phones, then from the past 2-3 years phones, most of the flagship phones will be eligible for the One UI 5. Whereas in mid-range phones, not all of them will be eligible.
As Samsung is transparent about the update policies for its devices, it is not hard to guess which phones will get the Android 13 based One UI 5 update. So here’s a list of Galaxy phones expected to get the Android 13 based One UI 5 update.
