The wait is finally over! Samsung kick-starts the Android 13 based One UI 5.0 public beta program for the Galaxy S22 series. It was expected to be released last month, but there was a small delay. Anyway, the One UI 5 beta starts rolling out to all three models in the Galaxy S22 series. For the time being, the beta program is live in Germany and South Korea. Samsung releases the new software with a stack of new features to the Galaxy S22 lineup. The official changelog coming with the first One UI 5.0 public beta confirms these features – more dynamic color palette options in themes, the ability to stack widgets on the home screen, notifications permissions for apps, the ability to set language per app, the option to edit lock screen wallpaper gallery, Optical Character Recognition for gallery app, copy text from screenshots, and so on.
One UI 5.0 is accompanied by Android 13 and bags improved sound and vibration settings, multiple timers support to the clock app, improved taskbar for Samsung DeX with a new search button and notification indicator, better support for physical keyboards, a bunch of additions to the Bixby assistant, new AR emoji stickers with support to create a sticker from the image, and more.
Apart from that, the update also brings some useful features for photos and videos, the list includes Histogram in Pro mode, the option to zoom with one hand, support to add watermark to images, food mode gets Telephoto lens support, and users can easily select filters in the camera app. Samsung also releases a new update with more accessibility options in the Quick Panel, the ability to edit the accessibility button, and the support to drag and drop bookmarks alongside a bunch of privacy and security updates.
And obviously, the update brings updated built-in Samsung apps that include these apps – Samsung Internet, Health, Pay, Members, the Galaxy Store, SmartThings, and others.
As per the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra users on the Samsung Community forum, the One UI 5 beta is labeled with the S90xBXXU2ZHV4 (Germany) and S90xNKSU2ZVH4 (South Korea) build numbers. If you reside in Germany or South Korea, you can join the beta program on the Samsung Members app and update to the Android 13 beta. The latest OTA weighs around 2.5GB in size, the first public beta is meant for the Exynos variant, which you can sideload on any European model.
