More smartphone brands have recently started testing the Android 17 Beta, and Honor has now joined the race as well. The Honor Magic 8 Pro is the first Honor device to receive the Android 17 Beta 3 Developer Preview program. This means developers and tech enthusiasts can now download and test the upcoming major Android update on their Honor Magic 8 Pro.
The Android 17 Beta for the Honor Magic 8 Pro only includes core Android features, as this is not a MagicOS upgrade. The Android 17 developer preview brings some new features, including system-wide Bubbles, improved Quick Settings controls, per-app dark mode settings, a redesigned screen recording UI, more customization options, native support for the RAW14 image format, and a few other features along with overall improvements.
This is an early Android 17 beta program and not a public beta release, so it is only recommended for developers. The main purpose of these Developer preview builds is to allow developers to test their apps and services ahead of the stable Android 17 rollout.
Honor recommends updating to build number 10.0.0.162(C636E4R105P2H2) or a newer version to install Android 17 Beta 3 on Honor Magic 8 Pro. The download link for the beta update firmware is available directly from Honor.
To install this beta build, you’ll need a PC, as the package must be flashed using ADB commands. Before starting the installation process, make sure to back up all important data to avoid any potential data loss. You can check the official update guide here.
In case you want to roll back to the stable version for any reason, Honor has also provided an official rollback package. The rollback process is similar to the update process, meaning you’ll need a PC and will have to use adb commands. Keep in mind that rolling back will erase all data on your device, so make sure to take a full backup of your phone before starting the process.
