Android 16 coming to Galaxy phones this summer – confirmed

Google recently hosted The Android Show: I/O Edition, where they revealed upgrades for the Android ecosystem. During the show, they also confirmed that Android 16 will be available for Galaxy devices in the Summer.

Yes, the Android 16-based One UI 8 will officially launch this Summer. Minseok Kang, VP and Head of the Smartphone Planning at Samsung Electronics also confirmed in a video shared on Android’s YouTube channel that Android 16 will be available for Galaxy phones starting this summer. This is big news as Galaxy phone users no longer expect faster updates from Samsung.

Samsung’s delayed release of One UI 7 tarnished its reputation. They delayed the major update by almost half a year. While other brands were rolling out Android 15 for their devices, Galaxy users were just waiting for a concrete release date.

Samsung started the rollout of One UI 7 in April, but several eligible devices are still awaiting the update. Since they don’t want to repeat the same mistake with One UI 8, they have already initiated One UI 8 beta testing.

Samsung is currently internally testing the One UI 8 beta on Galaxy S25 devices. Several sources have confirmed that the One UI 8 Beta will be released to the public by the end of May. This means Samsung will have enough time to test the One UI 8 and kick off the stable rollout in the Summer.

One UI 8 will not bring as many changes as One UI 7, which could help Samsung complete the testing of One UI 8 on time.

When Samsung kicked off the One UI 7 beta testing, it was exclusively intended for the Galaxy S24 series. However, due to continuous delay, they faced backlash from users and, so, decided to expand the beta to more devices. Notably, the One UI 8 beta is expected to be available for multiple models without any hasty decisions. The Galaxy S25 series will be the first to receive the One UI 8 beta.
