Why Samsung delayed the Android 15 based One UI 7: Key Reasons

Samsung has decided to push back the release of One UI 7 based on Android 15 to 2025. The One UI 7 will release alongside the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung is no longer in front of the line when it comes to pushing out timely updates. The tech giant is known for releasing quick updates, but due to some reasons, they have decided to take more time this year.

Android 15 is already available in AOSP and Google will release stock Android 15 in mid-October. This year Vivo leaped ahead of every brand and released stable Android 15 for its phones before others. We expected Samsung to begin Android 15 in November, but they decided to move the release to 2025. Even the One UI 7 beta won’t start until December.

During the recent Samsung Developers Conference that took place in October, Samsung said they are working on revamping One UI and is set to bring about a brand-new look for its devices. The public beta which Samsung would usually release between September and October has now been pushed for a December release.

The reason? While Samsung hasn’t shared any specific reason, we do know of some reasons that might be related to Samsung delaying the One UI 7.

Samsungโ€™s One UI 7 Delayed – Possible Reasons

Samsungโ€™s existing One UI system is pretty good, but its not the best and still require tons of improvements. For instance the animation still lags behind iPhone and other devices. Samsung also extending update support for new phones. To keep its brand promise of updating devices for 7 years, the user interface and experience should be top-notch.

One UI 7 delay reasons

So with all of these issues on hand for One UI, Samsung has been reworking One UI 7 from the ground up. This means the interface will feel smooth, bring new UI elements, and also have better animations when interacting with different onscreen elements. For all of this to work perfectly, time is in the essence, hence Samsung is delaying the One UI 7 update.

One UI 7 big changes

After the SDC24 keynote, Samsung also let users try out One UI 7, and from the information available, it looks like Samsung is still deciding on some new features. Or we can say that One UI 7 will not be ready soon enough.

One UI Coming To Samsung TVs in 2025

This could be another reason for the One UI 7 delay. At SDC24, Samsung also stated that its series of smart TVs and eligible older smart TVs will be getting One UI which will replace the existing Tizen OS. Yes, One UI is coming to Samsung TVs next, meaning that there will be even better communication between your Samsung smartphone and your Samsung smart TV.

So, it does make sense for Samsung to revamp One UI 7 for its smartphones and bridge the UI gap between its smartphones tablets, and smart TVs. It could mean that Samsung Dex wireless will be so much better on a Samsung smart TV running One UI.

One UI 7: Better Late Than Buggy

This year, Samsung has been very careful when pushing out software updates. For example, the Galaxy S24 series, which is the top-of-the-line smartphone from Samsung, has been receiving its security updates quite late. While it may annoy a lot of people, it is for the good of the people. Nobody wants to end up with a smartphone that is plagued with more issues or a dead smartphone simply because you installed a security or software update that was provided by the device brand itself.

One UI 7: When Does It Drop?

Stable Update

The new One UI 7 based on Android 15 is set to release publicly for many of Samsungโ€™s supported smartphones and tablets in early 2025. Alongside the launch of the new Galaxy S25 series during the January 2025 Galaxy Unpacked event, we will be getting the official One UI 7. Users can expect the update on older Galaxy devices later starting with Galaxy S24.

Also, a good number of Samsung smartphones will be getting the One UI 7 stable update in 2025. You can check out this list for all supported devices.

Closing Thoughts

Samsung has pushed back its One UI 7 with Android 15 release for 2025 and the public beta releases for December 2024. This is mainly due to the major changes they have been working on from scratch and the decision to bring One UI to all of its devices including Smart TVs.

Although it is disappointing to wait so long to get a taste of Android 15 on Galaxy phone, we can expect some great features that might be worth the wait. However, if Samsung fails to make enough changes that can’t justify the delay, users are going to be angry.
