Google’s Pixel 9 lineup is here with improvements in hardware as well as software. While the hardware is all great, the software department is what’s gotten everyone’s attention. Just like last year with the Pixel 8 series getting AII tools and features, this year the Pixel 9 series also comes with AI tools and features, but this time, they seem to be the best ones so far.
One of the most interesting AI features from the Pixel 9 series is the all-new Pixel Screenshots app. Powered by Google AI, your Google Pixel will be able to work smarter with hundreds of screenshots that you take. Interested in what all of this is about? You’ve come to the right place for everything you need to know about the Pixel Screenshots feature.
What is Pixel Screenshots App?
Pixel Screenshots is a brand-new AI feature that you can use to get more information about any data that has been captured by the screenshot. When you take a screenshot of your Pixel 9 family, Google’s AI module; Gemini Nano will start analyzing the image and provide you with all the necessary information from the single screenshot itself.
Gemini Nano will also be able to tell you what app and even from what website the screenshot was taken thanks to the metadata stored in the image itself. To make things easier for you the user, Gemini Nano will create a title as well as a summary of everything detailing the screenshot.
If there is something important from the screenshots that you have captured, Gemini Nano can offer to add specific details to your reminder or even your Google Calendar.
Pixel Screenshots – Organize All Those Screenshots
We take numerous screenshots throughout the day. Whether it is a meme or some useful information, there will be a hundred of them in your device’s Gallery. With Pixel Screenshots, you will be able to organize and arrange all the screenshots in different groups so that it becomes easier for you to search for what you are looking for. Plus, if you want to make it easier for Gemini to feature your screenshots, you can add a small note of the screenshots
Microsoft’s Recall – but Pixelified
Remember Microsoft releasing an AI tool called Recall? Well, Google’s Pixel Screenshot also can read through screenshots and display them to you when you search for any screenshot. You no longer need to scroll through the thousands of images stored in your Gallery. Ask Gemini, and the assistant will give you the exact screenshots you are looking for.
The difference between the canceled Microsoft Recall and Google’s Pixel Screenshots is that all the searching, and analyzing, of your screenshots takes place on your device itself. Yes, even if you disable the internet connection on your Google Pixel, Gemini will be able to still help you with your screenshots.
Is the New Pixel Screenshots App Exclusive to Pixels?
Google has stated that this is a feature that will be exclusive to the Pixel family of smartphones. However, this feature for the time being will be specific only to the Pixel 9 family. That means it will be available on the following devices
- Pixel 9
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Now, whether this feature will trickle down to the Pixel 9 family, it’s hard to tell. But since this is Google, and they want people to use their tools, it could roll over to the Pixel 8 series in the coming months.
Pixel Screenshots App on the Play Store
The newly launched feature can be accessed and used via the dedicated Pixel Screenshots app. As you can see from the Play Store listing of the app, you can get a good idea of what the interface is going to be like. Of course, if you are using a non-Pixel 9 device, you will see that the app will not work for your device.
Even if you do manage to install the app by sideloading it to your Android smartphone, the app will not work. It will simply be stuck on downloading the modules, which will simply force you to uninstall the app.
Pixel Screenshots App’s Availability
Pixel Screenshots will work in select supported languages and regions, just like Google Gemini. For Google Gemini to function, you will require an internet connection, since it is an assistant that makes use of the search results online to give you the data that you ask for. The screenshot processing requires no internet connection. So, even if you are in airplane mode on your Pixel 9, the Pixel Screenshots app will still work.
Closing Thoughts
Well, that is everything you need to know about Pixel Screenshots and how they work. Do you think this is a feature that you will be using on your Pixel 9 series? Or will you simply disable the Pixel Screenshots app altogether and hunt through your gallery for screenshots like the old days?
