Samsung starts One UI 9 development for Galaxy S23 and S24 devices

Summarize This Article:

Following the rollout of One UI 8.5, Samsung has now shifted its focus to the next major software update, One UI 9. While the One UI 9 public beta is currently only available for the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung is already testing it internally on a growing number of Galaxy devices. The company has now reportedly begun internal testing of One UI 9 for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series as well.

Over the past few weeks, One UI 9 test firmware has been spotted on Samsung’s servers for multiple devices, including the Galaxy S25 series, the upcoming Galaxy S26 FE, Galaxy A57, Galaxy A56, Galaxy A34, Galaxy A17 5G, and Galaxy A16 5G. These findings suggest that Samsung is actively preparing the Android 17-based update for a wide range of devices. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series now appear to have joined that list.

According to recent findings shared by Tarun Vats, placeholder hashes related to One UI 9 have been discovered in Samsung’s XML files, indicating that internal testing has indeed started for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 lineup. Although the exact test build numbers have not yet been decrypted. They are expected to appear on servers soon.

One UI 9 could be the final major update for the Galaxy S23 series, as it is only eligible for four major OS releases, and it has already received three of them. Whereas the Galaxy S24 series will continue to receive multiple upcoming major One UI releases.

One UI 9 is based on Android 17, and since it is already available as the public beta on the Galaxy S26 series, we already know some of the features and changes it will introduce. These include Quick Panel customization improvements, text spotlight, stronger app security, and more adaptive clock styles. You can check all the features here.

Talking about the One UI 9 public beta release, it may become available for the Galaxy S25 series this month. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series could follow shortly thereafter.
