No, the Google Pixel 9 and Pro phones are not waterproof but carry an IP68 rating which makes them dust and water-resistant. The “IP68” rating by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) signifies protection from both solid dust particles and water immersion.

The first number in the rating indicates protection against solid dust particles, while, the second digit in the rating, which is “8,” denotes their ability to withstand water immersion.

Similar to the 2024 flagship phones, the new Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL boast an IP68 rating. This means the phone can withstand submersion in fresh water at a maximum depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

In practical usage, the Pixel 9 series phones can handle accidental splashes, spills, or light exposure to water.
