Samsung introduced the adaptive lock screen clock that dynamically adjusts its shape and size based on the subject detected in the wallpaper. It is a unique approach compared to the Depth Effect and stands out visually. However, One UI 8 currently includes only a single adaptive clock style. More clock styles are expected to arrive with the One UI 9 update.
Tarun Vats, a well-known source for Samsung-related updates, recently shared a post on X showcasing a new adaptive clock font. This new clock style is currently available in the One UI 9 internal beta build. It will reach public users with the upcoming public beta of One UI 9 with wider availability after the stable build release.
The Android 17-based One UI 9 is still in the early stages of testing, so there’s a good chance Samsung could add more adaptive clock styles before the update hit stable channel. As of now, there are two adaptive clock fonts available, including the new one spotted in the One UI 9 internal beta.
The current adaptive clock font has a stylish and funky look, while the upcoming one appears more formal and minimal. You can check out the new adaptive clock font below, showcased with a wallpaper from the PhoneWalls app.
The Adaptive Lock Screen clock was first introduced in One UI 8, initially supporting wallpapers with subjects like people and animals. With One UI 8.5, the feature expanded to recognize more subjects, including buildings. However, the clock style itself remained limited to a single font. With the upcoming One UI 9 update, Samsung may introduce even more adaptive clock styles beyond the one already confirmed.
If you’re not familiar with the Adaptive lock screen clock and are already using One UI 8+, you should give it a try. First, set up a lock screen wallpaper that features an animal or a person. Then, long-tap on the lock screen and tap on “Customize.” Tap on “Clock” and choose the second style. The clock will automatically detect the subject and adjust its shape and size accordingly. You can manually change the clock’s position and size if desired. Once satisfied, tap Done.
