Want to access the advanced features of your Galaxy S25 at the root level? Youโll need to root your phone. Luckily. itโs possible to root the latest flagship phone from Samsung. To make the root process easier, weโve prepared an easy guide that you can follow to root your Samsung Galaxy S25 using Magisk.
Magisk is a powerful app, which also helps in rooting Android phones. Weโll utilize the same app to root Galaxy S25 models, which will work for all three devices in the series.
Some users may not be able to root their Galaxy S25 due to region-specific restrictions on unlocking the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader is a prerequisite for rooting the phone, but itโs restricted in the USA and Canada.
How to Root Samsung Galaxy S25
Weโve already explained how to unlock the bootloader of Galaxy S25 in a separate article, so be sure to check that out. Before rooting your phone, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- The process will reset your phone, so take a backup first
- It will void your phone warranty
- Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass will no longer work, even if you unroot the phone later
- Some other stock functions may not work
- You could brick the phone if you donโt follow the steps properly
- OTA updates will not work
Now that youโre aware of the risks involved in rooting the Samsung Galaxy S25, letโs proceed with the rooting process. Make sure the bootloader is unlocked before you proceed.
Download the firmware for your device that matches the version currently installed on it. You can dial *#1234# and check the AP. The firmware should be the same as the AP.
Patch Files using Magisk
- Extract the firmware on your PC, and youโll find files like AP_xxx.tar.md5, BL_xxx.tar.md5, and CSC_xxx.tar.mad5.
- Now extract init_boot.img.lz4 from the AP file and vbmeta.img.lz4 from the BL file.
- Select both files and archive them in the .tar extension. You can use 7zip to compress files in tar extension. Name the archive as per your preference, for example, archive.tar.
- Copy the recently created archive.tar to your Galaxy S25.
- Now, download the Magisk app and install it on your Galaxy S25.
- Open the app, tap Install next to Magisk, and then tap Select and Patch a File. Navigate and select the archive.tar file.
- It will start patching the file, so wait for the process to complete. Then copy the patched file from the download folder to your PC.
Flash patch file to root Galaxy S25
- First turn off your phone. Press and hold the Volume Up and Down keys together. While holding both keys, connect your phone to PC using the USB cable.
- Once the phone boot into the warning screen, press the Volume Up button and your Galaxy S25 will then boot into Download Mode.
- Open the Odin tool on your PC and load the patched file into the AP tab, BL_xxx.tar.md5 into BL tab, CP_xxx.tar.md5 into CP tab, and CSC_xxx.tar.md5 into the CSC tab.
- Click on the Start button to flash these files. Wait for the flashing process to complete. If prompted, perform a device reset.
- Your phone will now reboot. Now install the Magisk app and follow the on-screen instructions.
Thatโs it! You now have root access on your Galaxy S25. Since you wonโt receive any OTA updates, youโll need to install them manually. First, download the new firmware and follow the same patching and flashing process, but instead of using the CSC file, use the Home_CSC file to keep your data.
