Mention feature has been there for more than a decade on other platforms owned by Meta including Instagram and Facebook. Now, it has finally made its way to WhatsApp. According to Meta, the feature is designed to enhance user engagement on the platform.

How to Mention Someone in WhatsApp Status

Before moving ahead, please ensure that you’re using the latest version of WhatsApp on your iPhone or Android smartphone. The feature isn’t available on the older version of the app, so please update your WhatsApp to get access of the new feature.

If your WhatsApp is already updated to the newest available version, simply open the app and follow below steps to mention people in your WhatsApp status.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp and Tap Status from the bottom navigation bar.

Step 2: Create a new status with a photo or video.

Step 3: Tap @ icon at the right side of the captions box and choose the people you want to mention in your status.

Step 4: After selecting the contacts you want to mention, tap the check button to confirm your selection.

Step 5: Once done, the @ icon’s color will turn to white. You can finally tap the send button to publish your status.
