Apple is kicking off the week with a small iOS 26.5.1 update for the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air. At the moment, the update is not available for other iPhone models, and it may not be released at all. When Apple releases an update exclusively for specific devices, it is usually intended to address important issues that affect only those models.
Alongside the iOS 26.5.1 update, Apple has also released macOS Tahoe 26.5.1. No other software updates have been released today. The iOS 26.5.1 update carries build number 23F81. Although it is a minor incremental update, the download size can be several GBs depending on the device and the version you are updating from. For that reason, it’s recommended to download the update over WiFi.
As mentioned earlier, iOS 26.5.1 is a small maintenance update focused on fixing a specific issue affecting the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air. Here’s what the official update changelog says:
“Fixes an issue where wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models did not work when the battery was nearly drained.”
If you’re experiencing the charging issue on your iPhone 17 or iPhone Air, this update is important for resolving the problem. However, you won’t receive this update if you’re on an iOS 26.6 Beta since you’re already on a higher version.
To check for the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure you haven’t selected beta updates if the update doesn’t appear. It’s recommended to back up important data just in case.
