The eight-month-long testing finally comes to an end. Google has officially announced that the source code for Android 15 is available for the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This means that the code is stable enough for public use.
While making the announcement, the tech giant also confirmed that the Android 15 will reach Pixel phones in the coming weeks. Yes, the recent rumors were true, if you own a Pixel smartphone, then your phone will not receive the update anytime soon.
When it comes to other companies like Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi, they have had pre-release access for several months. As a result, we can expect some OEMs to announce their custom skins in the coming weeks. Samsung’s One UI 7 announcement is already scheduled for October 3.
Apart from the known smartphone makers, the availability of the source code gives power to custom ROM developers and companies that aren’t part of the Android partner program to customize their skin based on Android 15 AOSP.
If you own a Pixel smartphone, then you need to wait a bit longer this year to gain access to the newest version of Android. The delay allows the Android developer team to resolve bugs and ensure the update is a more stable release for Pixel phones.
Google is still running the Android 15 beta program for Pixel devices, with the latest build available to testers is the Android 15 QPR1 beta 1.1. If you’re in a haste and want to try out the new operating system on your device, then you can sign up for the Android beta program and install the update on your device.
