Earlier this month, Google unveiled the next generation of Pixel devices, including the highly anticipated Pixel 9 lineup. Although many expected these phones to launch with Android 15, that wasn’t the case. Instead, there’s a new rumor in the town hinting that the Android 15 has been delayed until October.
Folks over at Android Authority reported that Google might release the source code of Android 15 next week when September arrives. Additionally, they said the stable Android 15 update will not be available for the Pixel lineup until mid-October. The delay allows the Android developer team to resolve bugs and ensure the update is a more stable release for Pixel phones.
Usually, Google rolls out OTA updates for its Pixel devices on the same day the Android source code becomes available publically. Only the Android 12, which was one of the significant upgrades, was released 15 days after the release of the source code. While, the Android 14, 13, and 11 and older OTA updates for Pixel devices were made available on the same day as source code release.
If we look at the dates, this timeline suggests that Android 15 may experience the longest gap between the release of its source code and the rollout of the stable OTA update. Google already kicked off the Android 15 QPR1 beta which also hints that we’re close to the release of the source code.
When it comes to the Android 15 beta timeline, Google released the Android 15 beta 4.2 update on August 13 and we could see at least one more beta before the stable release.
Android Authority team reached out to the Google team and they declined to comment on anything.
