Samsung users eagerly await the next big update, One UI 7. While Google is very close to releasing the stable Android 15, Samsung has not yet started public beta testing. At SDC24 on October 3, Samsung shared some good and bad news. You won’t be happy to know that One UI 7 is not coming at its usual time but quite late.
Here, we will share One UI 7 release date, eligible devices, features, and more. Get ready to learn more about Samsung’s One UI 7. Samsung has officially shared many details about the One UI 7 at the developer conference, so expect some confirmed details.
The next version of Samsung’s custom skin, One UI 7, will be based on Android 15. Currently, the South Korean tech giant has not opened public beta testing of One UI 7. However, it’s going to start in couple of months.
Here we will round up all the available details about One UI 7 to date, and also the expected details.
One UI 7 Release Date
Samsung has finally given us the official release date of One UI 7. Let’s talk about it in detail.
At the 2024 Samsung Developer Conference, Samsung officially informed that One UI 7 will release along with the Galaxy S25 series. This means that the stable One UI 7 will be released in January 2025. This is an unexpected news for everyone as we all were hoping One UI 7 to release in 2024. But it won’t.
Samsung also official informed that the One UI 7 public beta will begin before the end of this year. So the beta will be available in late November or December.
Last year, Google released the Android 14 on October 4, and Samsung released the Android 14 based One UI 6 for Galaxy S23 series in late October. So many of us were expecting the One UI 7 in October or November.
The Galaxy S25 series will come with One UI 7 update out of the box, and Galaxy S24 should be the first to get One UI 7 update. If I were to guess, most of the devices will get the update within first quarter of 2025. But who knows what Samsung has planned.
Why Samsung decided to delay the One UI 7, there is no official explanation. Is it because Samsung is building things from the ground up, or is it they messed up in the first attempt? What do you think the reason is? Because from the first look of One UI 7, the delay is not justified.

One UI 7 Features (Expected)
One UI 7 will be the next major update, packed with multiple new features.
Soon after the SDC24 keynote, One UI 7 first look started appearing on the Internet. And we already have so many thing to talk about in One UI 7 features.
Control Center and Notification are separate
Samsung has decided to go for different window for Quick Panel and Notifications. Swiping down from the left will bring the Notification page where you can see all your Notifications with rounded corners. And swiping down from the right side will bring the control center or quick settings panel.
Users don’t seem to like this change as the notifications don’t look as refined as the One UI 6. But that might be subjective.
Widgets with frosted background
One UI 7 to bring improved or even new widgets. But for what’s confirmed, frosted widgets are coming in One UI 7. They look amazing from what we have in One UI 6. The translucent like background make the widget eye catching.
New App Icons
One UI 7 will also bring some new app icons. While some of them look good, some of them feels like downgrade for example look at the Gallery app icon. I am not a big fan on icon refinement, if you already have a good icon, they can invest time on other things where its required.
New Camera App
Camera app is getting a required update with all option are now under reach. The new UI has all the important options at the bottom. Option like Portrait, Photo, Video, are under shutter whereas MP, ratio, flash, options are above shutter.
New Recent Apps screen
The recent menu or recent apps screen is getting improvement with One UI 7. As from the first look, it looks amazing and feels buttery smooth. It has pages like UI where the recent app is shown flat and the previously opened apps are slightly at different angle.
Super Smooth Animation
This is where we might see the best improvement in One UI 7. Opening app, closing app, changing screens, all looks great. Samsung has also adjusted the corners angle which also contribute to the smooth animation.
Exploring more features revealed recently, till then you can check out One UI 7 features leaked in last few months.
Vertical App Drawer
One UI 7 is rumored to bring some changes to the App Drawer. Users will now have to option to use the scroll up and scroll down gestures to navigate through all apps, you can say vertical app drawer. Currently, we can only swipe to left and right to browse through apps.
New AI Features
Samsung has already added a bunch of AI features to Galaxy phones with One UI 6.1, we might see a few more AI feature in One UI 7. As usual, only some Galaxy phones will be eligible for these AI features, more likely the models that already support AI features with One UI 6.1.
Battery Health
It is one of the Android 15 features that may also be available on One UI 7. It will let users see the remaining health of the battery similar to iOS. Users no longer have to use third party apps to see their device battery health.
More Home Screen Customization
One UI 7 could also bring the option to choose between different App icon modes. The new mode, rumored to be called ‘Bold’ will make app icons bigger and hide their names.
Also the update may bring support for dark icons like iOS 18. This will switch app icon background to dark and enhance the colors to make it vibrant.
Improved Live Activities
Live Activities will be available for more apps like stopwatch, recorder, and more. Also it will be more refined than the current version. This will make tracking background activity more engaging and interesting.
Partial Screen Share
With new update, you will be able to choose what screen you want to share during screen sharing session. This will prevent other participants from seeing your screen that you don’t want to show.
More Customization
One UI is a custom UI with a lot of customization feature along with support for Good Lock. And with One UI 7, we can expect a bunch of more customization options for home screen, lock screen, and more areas.
Improved large screen multitasking
Android 15 add better multitasking for large screen devices like Galaxy foldables and Galaxy tablets which should also be available on One UI 7. Users can save split pair apps in taskbar that allow access to favorite split screen combination instantly.
Improved Security and Privacy
As with every major update, you can expect various improvements in the Privacy and Security section.
Other features:
- New battery indicator
