ColorOS 15 is Oppo’s take on Android 15. The Chinese smartphone maker has announced its next Android-based custom skin and it brings a major refresh to compatible Oppo phones. The skin is designed to bring a fresh interface, an all-new lock screen layout, several new features, and system-wide improvements.

ColorOS 15 Release Date

Oppo details the ColorOS 15 skin at its annual developer conference on October 17. The company has confirmed that the update will start rolling out to the first set of Oppo phones in November. Last year, Oppo announced the ColorOS 14 on November 16, a month after the public release of Android 14.

Early this month, Google kicked off the Android 15 to the public for Pixel devices. Now it is the time for other Android smartphone OEMs to release the update for their devices. Oppo has finally shared the rollout timeline for ColorOS 15. Based on previous trends, we can expect the company to release the beta update first and the stable update after a month or so.

Currently, the company is testing the ColorOS 15 beta on OnePlus 12 and select other devices in mainland China. Oppo Find X8 series is expected to come with ColorOS 15 out-of-the-box.

ColorOS 15 Supported Devices

As per Oppo’s 2023 software update policy, a big list of phones are eligible for the upcoming ColorOS 15 update. The company has clearly mentioned that all flagship models from 2023 and forward will receive four major software upgrades, two updates for mid-range phones, and one for budget phones. Whereas pre-2023 flagship phones will receive three major OS upgrades.

ColorOS 15 Features

ColorOS 15 boasts a big list of new features and enhancements. ColorOS adopts a fresh layout with new icons, dynamic animation effects, lock screen customizations, new notifications panel, and more. Apart from that, the skin will optimize animations, enhancements for large screen and foldable devices, and many more. Let’s explore new features.

Redesigned Lock Screen

Lock Screen gets a massive redesign; iOS-like depth effect for the clock screen. ColorOS 15 comes with a bunch of new high-quality themes and themes for lock screen. The press release confirms that users will have multiple clock fonts to choose from. With several customization options, you can place the clock anywhere you want. You can also add widgets to the lock screen.

Redesigned Notification Panel

Notification Panel, or, the Control Center also receives a new interface. The new UI elements look similar to iOS 18’s control center. In the below screenshot, we can see bigger WiFi and Bluetooth toggles, along with repositioned icons. Additionally, the music widget has been resized and now appears to the left of the brightness toggle.

Every year, Oppo redesigned default icons for its custom skin and the upcoming version is no exception. The list of update icons include Settings, Phone, Camera, Notes, Calculator, Weather, Clock, Browser, Messages, Sounder Recorder, Contacts, and many others.

AI Features

ColorOS 15 supports a flurry of new AI features for image editing, AI Ultra HD Pixels feature allow users to zoom in and save high-quality zoomed photos. AI Anti-smear is another useful feature that helps fix the ghosting photos in a single tap, AI De-glare lets users remove reflections from images.

Apart from image editing features, Oppo introduces its own Circle to search like feature, AI Voice summary feature, AI Notes, and more.

Share Content Between Oppo and iPhone

The latest skin allows Oppo users to send or receive pictures, videos, and documents easily using Airdrop. Yes, you can finally share files between Android and iPhone, thanks to Oppo’s all-new feature. However, users need to install an app on their Apple devices to send or receive files.

Improved large screen multitasking

Android 15 adds better multitasking for large-screen devices like Oppo foldable phones and tablets which should also be available on ColorOS 15.

Improved Security and Privacy

As with every major update, you can expect various improvements in the Privacy and Security section.

Other Features:

ColorOS 15 adopts Aurora and Tidal Engine to support system-level rendering to run app animations in parallel for a lag-free experience. Apart from that, there’s a system-level dynamic cache allocation to manage resources in real time. For mainland China, Oppo adds its XiaoBu Assistant which can be launched on any screen for natural conversations and other queries.
