The Android update season is upon us. After Vivo and Google, which company will take the third spot for rolling out stable Android 15? Could it be Sony, Asus, Nothing or another brand? Depending on when you’re reading this, it may already be clear, but here we’ll focus on Android 15 for Xperia phones.
If you have a Sony Xperia phone, you might be wondering whether your device will receive the Android 15 or if it will no longer get important updates. Don’t worry, we’ve got a list of Sony Xperia phones eligible for Android 15, confirmed by a major carrier from Japan.
When it comes to the user interface, Sony’s UI is not much different from the stock Android interface. And this doesn’t only apply to UI but also to the features. Although Sony has not officially revealed what features they will bring to Xperia phone with Android 15 update, you can expect the major features of Android 15.
Talking about the features of Android 15 will be of interest mostly to those whose phones are eligible for the update. So let’s first look at the list below.
Android 15 compatible Sony Xperia Phones
The list below is based on the data from past few years and also from the list released by AU, one of the popular carriers in Japan. So consider this list as final.
- Xperia 1 V
- Xperia 10 V
- Xperia 5 V
- Xperia 1 VI
- Xperia 10 VI
New upcoming phones such as Xperia 5 VI will also be eligible for the Android 15 update. It is also possible that the upcoming phone will have the latest Android version out of the box.
Sony is not known for providing longer update support, hence the short list. I am sure many of you are not surprised to see such a short list.
There isn’t any official statement from Sony about how many years their phones will receive updates. But based on historical data, it is maximum of two years. So if your phone has already received two major Android updates, I would say don’t expect a third update.
Now coming to the new features, you can expect Android 15 to bring features such as partial screen recording that let us choose which app we want to record, archive app to keep data while uninstalling apps, save app pair to instantly open two apps in two window for multitasking, theft protection to solve privacy concern after a phone is stolen, and more.
We have an article on best features users should try after updating their phones to Android 15, which you can also check out. Android 15 is not as big as Android 14, so don’t expect too many new features. Google paired the Android 15 with quarterly update to make the update look bigger.
Is your Xperia phone on the list? If yes, make sure to backup your data before installing the Android 15 update once it is available for your phone. Those whose phone is not on the list will have to settle with Android 14 or older updates. Yes, we also think Sony should step up its game and offer at least four years of Android updates.
