Vivo leaves Google and Samsung behind, launches Android 15 first

The latest stable version of Android, Android 15 is now rolling out to the first set of phones. Surprisingly, it’s not Pixel devices leading the way, but three phones from Vivo. Usually, Pixel phones get major Android updates first, but Vivo has done an excellent job bringing Android 15 on its devices before Google or any other company.

The Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15 update is rolling out to the Vivo X Fold 3, Vivo X100 series, and iQOO 12. Google Pixel phones are expected to get the update only after two weeks. And Samsung is yet to begin the Open Beta, which should start soon.

Ishan Agarwal has shared a screenshot in his tweet/post which gives some information about the Vivo X Fold 3 Android 15 update. Funtouch OS 15 for Fold 3 is available with build number PD2337F_EX_A_15.1.8.16.W30. And the update weighs 2.30GB.

As per the shared screenshot, Functouch OS 15 improves animations which makes the OS even smoother. The new update also brings some new static wallpapers. As of now we don’t have the complete changelog.

Alvin, another user who has received the Android 15 on his Vivo phone, shared that the UI is similar to Funtouch OS 14, but with some layout and placement changes. And the icons and text are smaller. The changes also include improved animations and visual effects.

Android 15 isn’t as big as Android 12 or Android 14, but it is still a major annual update with some major changes. However, on a custom OS like Funtouch OS 15, you will find some exclusive features that are not part of the stock Android 15, but there also can be some stock Android 15 features that may not be available on custom OS.

Vivo is set to officially announce Funtouch OS 15 on September 30, but started rolling out the update before the promised date. People are praising Vivo for releasing the new update before others, which is not an easy task to achieve.

If you have a Vivo X Fold 3, Vivo X100 series, or iQOO 12, you can expect the stable Android 15 update to arrive anytime as an OTA. You can manually look for the update in Settings. But remember that the updates roll out in batches, so it can take a few days for the complete roll out. Also don’t forget to backup your device before installing the update.
