The foldable phone market is booming, with every major tech company entering the foldable market. Google entered the market last year, and they will launch second foldable in a few weeks. It is officially confirmed that the next foldable from Google will be called Pixel 9 Pro Fold and not Pixel Fold 2.
Samsung has recently launched its new foldables; Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. And after the launch of the Samsung foldable, the next foldable in line is the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Although Google did well in the first attempt, the first Pixel Fold still had many issues such as big notch, many apps do not support full screen, crease visibility, and more. And Google might fix these problems in the second foldable.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Release Date
Google released its first Google Fold on June 27 last year, following its announcement at the Google I/O event in May 2023. However, Google didn’t announce the upcoming foldable at this year’s I/O event. The event was all about AI and OS.
Recently Google released a teaser that reveals Pixel 9 Pro Fold release date. The upcoming foldable, Pixel 9 Pro Fold will launch on August 13 alongside the Pixel 9 series at the Made By Google event. The device will start hitting the shelves later in a week or two.
The event usually take place in October but this time Google will host the event in August. It was officially revealed in June when Google sends out invite for the event.
The event will take place at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, and will commence at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET or 10:30 PM IST). Like some recent events, this one will also be a limited in-person event, and those unable to attend can watch it online on YouTube. Here is a teaser shared by Google.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold Design
We now know how the device will look thanks to renders and leaks. And as per leaks, the second pixel foldable to come with major redesign. Let’s start with the changes.
Google has officially shared the new design of Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The first noticeable change is the new rear camera placement (now confirmed by Google through a teaser). On the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the back camera will be positioned at the corner, unlike a straight bar on the first Pixel Fold. The new camera island is shaped rectangular, housing two separate camera cutout and a LED flash.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to come in an aspect ratio similar to the square display like OnePlus Open. And as most companies reduce bezels with every new-gen devices, you can expect narrower bezels in the Pixel Fold 2 (official name Pixel 9 Pro Fold).
The device is also said to be slimmer than its predecessor. Rumors also suggest a better premium finish in the upcoming foldable. However, the crease will still be visible.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold Rumored Specifications
In terms of specifications, we don’t have any concrete information yet. But there are CAD-based renders that reveal some numbers you might want to take a look at.
Display
It is the most important part of the foldable as these have thrice the display of a smartphone. Luckily, the Pixel Fold is rumored to come with improvements in the Display compared to its predecessor. You can expect improvements in the bezels, and quality department.
As shared by Ross Young, the inner display of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 8.02 inches. Whereas the cover screen or outer screen measures 6.29 inches. Ross Young is a CEO of DSCC and known for providing accurate information. Also expect peak brightness number to go up with new fold.
Pixel Fold came with 7.6 inches inner display and 5.8 inches outer display. This means both the displays will be larger than the last year’s Pixel Fold. Ross Young corrected the display leaks that came in the form of CAD renders with different numbers.
Camera
Since we have already talked about the new rear camera base, let’s start with camera specifications. As per Smartprix through a CAD render leak, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is rumored to have three rear cameras. There are a couple of sensors along with an LED flash near cameras.
There are two selfie cameras, one at the top center of the outer display (also known as cover display), and one at the top right corner of the inner display. The camera in the inner display is said to be the under-display camera which means the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have thin top and bottom bezels.
The numbers for cameras are not yet available, you can expect a better setup than the first Pixel Fold. It won’t be long before the details camera spec leak appear online.
Other Specifications
Starting with performance, the next fold will be powered by the Tensor G4, which will also be part of the Pixel 9 series. The last foldable was powered by the Tensor G2, as it was released before the introduction of Tensor G3. So the performance boost is going to be huge.
As shared by Android Authority, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to ship with 16GB RAM which is an increase from 12GB on the first foldable. The storage option will start from 256GB and it will be UFS 4.0 storage.
Since the device is going to launch along with Pixel 9 phones, it will come with the latest Android 15 which will also be released to the public on the same day. The last beta of Android 15 has been released too. First Pixel Fold had many issues because of many non compatible apps, so we are expecting better OS integration and app support on the upcoming foldable.
As of now, there is no information on the battery department. We can expect more battery than the Pixel Fold which comes with a 4,821mAh battery. Also it’s time for Samsung and Google to take a step and increase charging speed. They are still stuck in the past.
AI Features
Google has officially confirmed that the second foldable will pack AI features just like Pixel 8 and upcoming Pixel 9 series. Pixel 9 Pro Fold Price
Foldables are premium phones and also comes with a high price tag. Unfortunately, there is no information yet about the Pixel Fold 2 pricing. But you can expect it to be around $1,799 or $1,899. As far the availability goes, the Pixel 9 Pro will be available in more countries than the first Pixel Fold.
