Google releases Android 15 Beta 4 with a big list of fixes

The public release of Android 15 is fast approaching, expected to be released next month along with the Pixel 9 phones. As the release date nears, Google has released the last big Android 15 beta update for eligible Pixel devices. We may see a couple of small incremental updates before the official public release, but no major changes are expected at this point.

So, what’s new in the Android 15 beta 4, let’s find out in this article.

Google pushes the last scheduled beta for eligible devices with the AP31.240617.009 version number. If you own the Pixel 6 or newer model, you can easily upgrade your Pixel to the newest Android 15 beta.

The update brings minimal changes including dark mode support for screenshot preview window, renaming color contrast controls to High contrast text, Display settings are now Display & Touch settings, apart from these minor changes. Android 15 beta 4 addresses a big list of known issues.

Android 15 Beta 4 – Fixes

Developer-reported Issues

  • Fixed an issue with contrast that made some elements in Quick Settings Tiles hard to read. (Issue #340944691)
  • Fixed an issue that in some rare cases caused some Pixel devices to get stuck in an unbootable state if the device was factory reset shortly after an OTA system update was installed. (Issue #349860641, Issue #349978813)

Other Resolved Issues

  • Fixed an issue where sometimes an Android Virtual Device (AVD) using an Android 15 system image failed to launch if the AVD was launched in embedded mode.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused app notification settings to fail to be restored when restoring a device from backup.
  • Fixed an issue for Pixel Fold devices that prevented a user from continuing Face Unlock enrollment if the device was folded or unfolded during the process.
  • Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, connectivity, performance, usability, and camera.

Bluetooth resolved issues

  • Fixed a bug which prevented the Digital Car Key app from performing low latency scans when running in foreground.
  • Made a fix to use custom UUIDs instead of standard HOGP service UUID in Android head-tracking service.
  • Use head-tracking codec capabilities to detect transport support in LE Audio stack.
  • Made a fix to prevent immediate rejection of Bluetooth pairing requests when thereโ€™s a mismatch between the API-suggested transport and the transport observed by the Bluetooth stack, potentially improving pairing success rates.

If you own a compatible Pixel smartphone, then you can join the Android Beta Program. Once you enroll in the beta program, then you will receive the beta update on your smartphone over the phone. You can check for the software updates by navigating to Settings > System > System updates.

When installed you can use the Android Beta Feedback app to submit problems or issues available on the beta.

You can manually sideload the upgrade your phone to the beta, visit this page to download the Factory images and this page to get the OTA files. Make sure to take a backup before sideloading the new software.

For Android 15 DP users: If your Pixel smartphone is already running on the Android 15 developer preview, then you will get the first beta on your device over the air. Or you can manually install the Android 15 beta on your smartphone.

For Android 14 QPR users: If you’re on the Android 14 QPR release, then you can also upgrade your Pixel smartphone to Android 15 beta without wiping the data, the update will be available on your phone over the air, all you need to do is simply find it inside System Updates settings and install it on your device.
