Android 15 Beta 3.1 is here to address the lock screen bug

Last month, Google released the third beta of Android 15, which helped the upcoming OS reach the platform stability milestone. While the third beta improved the overall experience, there are still some issues left to address. Therefore, today, Google released an incremental upgrade today, labeled as Android 15 Beta 3.1.

The newest beta comes out with the AP31.240517.031 version number and is available for the Pixel 6 series and newer models. If you own the Pixel Tablet or Pixel Fold, you can also install the 3.1 beta on your device.

Moving to the changes, then the update addresses three major issues, including the annoying lock screen touch input issue, biometric authentication failure issues, connectivity, and audio issues. Apart from that, the incremental beta brings improvements across the system.

  • Fixed issues that caused the lock screen to intercept touch input and prompt the user to unlock the device, even when interacting with elements on the lock screen that don’t require the device to be unlocked. (Issue #348101427, Issue #345873537)
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused biometric face authentication to fail.
  • Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, connectivity, and audio quality.

If you own a compatible Pixel smartphone, then you can join the Android Beta Program. Once you enroll in the beta program, then you will receive the beta update on your smartphone over the phone. You can check for the software updates by navigating to Settings > System > System updates.

You can manually sideload the upgrade your phone to the beta, visit this page to download the Factory images and this page to get the OTA files. Make sure to take a backup before sideloading the new software.

For Android 15 DP users: If your Pixel smartphone is already running on the Android 15 developer preview, then you will get the first beta on your device over the air. Or you can manually install the Android 15 beta on your smartphone.
