Xiaomi releases MIUI 12 Update for Redmi 8 [Global Stable]

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has started pushing the MIUI 12 update on the Redmi 8. In August, Xiaomi Redmi 8 received Android 10 update which is based on MIUI 11 skin. It’s a global stable update comes with a flurry of new features, latest security patch, and improvements. Here’s everything you need to know about Redmi 8 MIUI 12 Update (Global Stable).

The newer build on Redmi 8 is weeding over-the-air with V12.0.1.0.QCNMIXM software version. And there are a few users who have reportedly receiving the new update on social media. The update measures around 650MB to download, the global stable build is rolling in regions of Philippines. Hopefully, it will soon be available for other regions as well.

This is one of the biggest updates for Redmi 8, and users were eagerly waiting for it. One of the best things of the update is, it bundles a list of useful features including intuitive UI, new animations, intuitive UI, customizations, and also with the MIUI 12 Wallpapers. Control Center

  • New: Swipe down from the upper left corner to open Notification shade and from the upper right corner to open Control center
  • New: When Notification shade is open, swipe down from the upper right corner to open Control center
  • Optimization: Control center layout in landscape mode

Dark Mode

  • Optimization: Brightness and color improvements for wallpapers in dark mode


  • New: Screen lights up with an animation now
  • Fix: Home screen went black and started flashing after unlocking in some cases

Status bar, Notification Shade

  • New: Screen lights up with an animation now
  • New: Status bar color gradient animation
  • Fix: Status bar wasn’t displayed correctly with color inversion


  • New: A new mode for scanning documents

As always, the MIUI 12 OTA might take some time to reach every Redmi 8 smartphone. But you can manually download the recovery ROM and sideload it on your smartphone.

Before upgrading your smartphone, I recommend you to take a backup, before diving into the process and charge your device to at least 30%.

Update Instructions:

To sideload the recovery ROM package (Update file), you need to head over to the system settings > updates, then select the update package manually. Then, allow the prompts to install the build.

Once the installation process is completed, reboot your Redmi 8 before start using it. That’s it.
