Last Month, Xiaomi has announced the Android 12 recruitment program for Mi 11 series. Now as Google officially released the source code of Android 12 OS, a couple of smartphone OEMs has kicked-off the new beta builds based on Android 12. Yesterday, Samsung released the second beta build of One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy S21 lineup, Oppo started testing ColorOS 12 on Find X3 series. Now Xiaomi has kicked-off its first beta build for the Mi 11 series phones. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mi 11, Mi 11i, and Mi 11 Ultra Android 12 Beta update.

Xiaomi seeds the Android 12-based MIUI 12.5 beta firmware for the users who had opted the pilot testing program. The latest firmware on Mi 11 comes with 12.5.1.0.SKBMIXM version number, while the Mi 11i and Mi 11 Ultra receives the new update with 12.5.1.0.SKKMIXM and 12.5.1.0.SKAMIXM build numbers. As it is a major upgrade, both the OTA and recovery ROM weighs more than the usual monthly patches.

As always, the Android-12 based recovery ROM is available for sideloading on all members of Mi 11 series. Thanks to @Xiaomiui telegram channel for sharing the builds. Although, I don’t recommend you sideloading the first beta builds on your primary smartphone aka daily driver, some users are reporting hard brick issue after updating to the new firmware.

Talking about the features, then for the time being, Xiaomi didn’t mentioned any list of new features coming with the Android 12. But users can use the features such as a new widget system to Android, better privacy management, new quick settings, improved auto rotate, scrolling screenshots, universal splash screen, and other basic features of Android 12.

Xiaomi Mi 11 series users can update their phones to the Android 12 beta, by joining the pilot testing program or manually sideloading the recovery ROM. Here’s the download link of new firmware for Mi 11 series.

Before upgrading your smartphone, I recommend taking a full backup and charge your device to at least 30%. Once done, you can sideload the new firmware on your Mi 11, Mi 11i, or Mi 11 Ultra smartphone.
