Samsung has been focused on keeping its devices secure from the start. Recently the South Korean tech giant announced two new security features coming to Galaxy Phones. The new security features in talk are Private Sharing via Quick Share and Enhanced Data Protection.
Samsung regularly brings new privacy and security features like these two new features. The tech giant is known for Knox Security which does more than what general users know. Once you understand Knox Security, you will want other smartphone makers to implement the same.
And Knox Security got even more secure with new features. Let’s talk about new security features in detail.
Private Sharing via Quick Share
With Quick Share, you will now be able to share files privately that are encrypted by blockchain-based technology. It gives you the option to choose recipients who can open the shared file. This means, even if someone who is not in your recipient list manages to get your file, they can not open your file. Not only that, you can also set permissions and the expiration time for the files you are sharing.
Here are all options for Private sharing:
- Select recipients
- Expiration time
- Read-only access
- Stop from re-sharing
- Revoke the data access
- Restrict screenshotting
This way, you don’t have to worry about your files being leaked to a different platform. You can share files with piece of mind.
With Private Sharing, you can share up to 20 files at a time, but it’s limited to 200MB in one time.
It’s quite easy to use Private Sharing in Quick Share. First select the files you want to share, then choose the Quick Share option. In the Quick Share screen, tap three dots followed by ‘Turn on Private Sharing’ option. You can set expiration time and other settings.
Limitations:
- 20 files at a time
- File Size limit to 200MB a time
- Works between Samsung devices only (Android 10 or later)
- File types: images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .webp, .heic, .dng), videos (.webm, .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .mkv), audio (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, .m4a), and documents (.txt, .pdf)
Enhanced Data Protection
Your synced and backup data on Samsung cloud are now protected with end to end encryption. This means that the data can be encrypted or decrypted on your Galaxy device only. So even if the server is compromised or your account details are leaked, you can be confident that your data is safe.
You will get a recovery code that you can use to encrypt your data on a different phone, if you ever lose your phone.
To enable the Enhanced Data Protection, open Samsung Cloud settings. Now open Enhanced data protection. Here you can encrypt backup data and synced data. When you enable it, you will get the recovery code.
Other way to access it is from Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Enhanced Data protection.
Both features are already available on my Galaxy S21 FE. If you don’t see these features on your phone, then its rolling out in batches, so it may take some time.
