Galaxy Ring is the new lightweight wellness tracker from Samsung and a good replacement for heavy smartwatches. Of course, a Smartwatch comes with more features, but it may not matter if a user only wants a few essential ones.
Tracking steps is one of the most used features in smartwatches. But does the Galaxy Ring track steps too or not? If you want to replace a smartwatch with a smart ring, you must know this.
Does the Galaxy Ring track steps?
Yes, Galaxy Ring tracks steps continuously all the time. And since it comes with a better fit than a smartwatch, you can also expect it to show data more accurately. The tracking steps feature is paired with Galaxy AI for better health data.
Galaxy Ring has three sensors: Bio Active sensor, Infrared Temperature sensor, and Accelerometer.
An accelerometer is a sensor used for steps tracking and other physical activities.
How to track steps with Galaxy Ring
If you are new to using Galaxy Ring, you need to first pair your Galaxy Ring to track steps. To save your time, hereโs the guide:
- Install the Wearable app and Samsung Health app on your phone.
- Open the Galaxy Ring case, and you will see a pairing popup on your phone (if both devices are nearby). If you donโt get a popup, press the multi-purpose button on the case for three seconds.
- On the pop-up, tap Connect. Or, you can also open the Wearable app. Next, select the Galaxy Ring and login with your preferred account. All data will be synced with this account.
- Thatโs it, your Galaxy Ring will be paired with your phone and account.
Setup Samsung Health App
- Open the Health app and login with the same account you used for pairing.
- Next, open Wearable app and go to Health Settings.
- Enable Activities to Detect and select Walking and Running.
How to see Galaxy Ring Steps Count?
Unlike a Smartwatch, you don’t get a display on the Galaxy Ring. So how do you see the steps tracked by your Galaxy Ring? Well, you have to view the data on the Samsung Health app on your phone.
As mentioned in steps, when you set up the Galaxy Ring with your Android phone, you need to install the required apps, including the Samsung Health app.
All the tracking data such as sleep score, walking and running activity, stress data, heart rate data, and everything will be stored in the Samsung health app.
If you haven’t installed Samsung Health, install it and pair it with your Galaxy Ring.
Open the Samsung Health app on your phone. You will see the Walking and Running details in the app dashboard. Open them to see more insight.
Auto Tracking Steps on Galaxy Ring
Galaxy Ring tracks steps automatically, so you donโt need to manually start the counter (make sure the auto workout detection is enabled in Wearable settings). It will detect your workout from walking or running. Since the Ring is always in contact with your skin, the data it gives is quite accurate.
The Samsung Health app will also give you a full day summary the next day along with suggestions on what to improve.
