Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date, Specifications, Price, VR Support, and More

Nintendo is ready to drop the brand-new Switch next year. Yup, there is finally news about the next Switch from Nintendo. Called Switch 2, this will be the 4th Switch model from Nintendo. The Switch by itself has had a huge success thanks to the various games that were exclusive to it. From titles such as Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and Legends of Zelda and of course not to forget, the various Pokémon titles.

Now that Nintendo is ready to bring the successor to the Switch OLED, it is only going to get interesting to see what the company has planned for its new device. Will there be new features added to its software? Is AI going to be a part of the Nintendo Switch? Or is it simply just going to get a better screen, more storage options, and better SoC and GPUs?

Here’s everything you need to know about Nintendo Switch 2, including release date, specifications, price, VR support, and more.

Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date

The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be released in March 2025. Yes, it’s less than a year from now. Now, whether it will be called the Switch 2 or Switch 2025, we will have to wait for its official name tags.

While Nintendo is usually secretive about its new and upcoming devices, we could expect them to make announcements about the new Switch 2 towards the end of 2024. However, since it is Nintendo, they could simply surprise everyone with a surprise announcement and reveal of the Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 Specifications

Nintendo wants gamers to buy their Switch, so one can expect the Switch 2 to be a better upgrade from the Switch and the Switch OLED.  We can expect the new Switch 2 to come with an OLED display, and that is all. The SoC and GPU that will be powering are still unknown. We could also see a bump in the RAM as well as storage options. These are expected as games have started getting better graphics and have relatively increased in terms of install and download sizes.

There are expectations of the Switch 2 getting a huge upgrade in terms of battery life and also a possibility of the device getting a higher refresh rate display. The problem now is that nothing has been confirmed because one, Nintendo hasn’t revealed anything, and two, there have hardly been any leaks of the new Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing

With so many handheld devices out there, Nintendo will have to price its upcoming Switch 2 either at the same price tag as the Switch OLED or maybe around the $400 mark. The pricing is going to be one of the important factors for those who might be upgrading from the previous generations of the Switch, or also for those who might be interested in getting a Switch for the first time.

Nintendo Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility

Given how many games have been released for the Switch since 2017, there is a possibility that Nintendo might have the Switch 2 backward compatible with games released for the Switch 1. Looking back at Nintendo’s history of backward compatibility with the games and its older game console, there is a high chance of backward compatibility.

Nintendo Switch 2 – Gaming in 4K?

If Nintendo wants to make its Switch 2 a gaming handheld desirable for many gamers, it will have to support gaming at 1080p to have it upscaled to 4K. While the display size of the Switch 2 is expected to be an 8-inch display, there is no concrete evidence of the console supporting 4K gaming yet.

Nintendo Switch 2 – VR Support?

While it seems like a good idea to bring VR gaming to a handheld gaming console like the Switch 2, it is quite unlikely. Simply because the Switch 2 would require heavy hardware to get VR functioning smoothly. That will simply raise the price tag of the Switch 2 and people would prefer ditching the Switch 2 for any other handheld gaming device in the market.

What Happens to the Original Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo is expected to drop support for the original Switch in 2025, which makes way for Nintendo to support the Switch OLED and its new Switch 2 handheld gaming consoles. Now we are not sure if Nintendo will stick to this or have changes, it is all about waiting to see what we get when the time comes.

So yes, the Switch 2 will be coming next year, but there are no concrete details about the device as of now. Nintendo is always secretive about its upcoming devices. With not many rumors coming out of the rumor mill for the Switch 2, it is simply best to keep calm and wait for Nintendo itself to reveal all the details about the new Nintendo Switch 2.
