How to tell if Nintendo Switch is charging

Games. Everyone enjoys playing video games. There are various genres of games that can be played on a variety of platforms. Mobile, PC, consoles, or even cloud gaming, there are tons of games available to play. While handheld gaming consoles hardly exist, the Nintendo Switch is one of the best ones out there. Considering Switch only titles such as Animal Crossing and a whole bunch of Mario games have made the gaming console a popular one, especially in 2020. With all of that being said, let’s take a look at how to find out if your Nintendo Switch is charging when dead.

The Nintendo Switch has a pretty good battery capacity and backup when you consider its specs. So far, we know how to charge the Switch using different methods, check out the different methods to fix the Switch if it won’t charge or for that matter even power on. Heck, you can even use the controllers from older Nintendo consoles with Nintendo Switch. Even the number of games that are available to play on it is a lot whether it is single-player or even split-screen multiplayer ones. While the Switch is all great, it is useful to know and identify if the Nintendo Switch is charging

How to tell if switch is charging

As we know, the Nintendo Switch can be charged in a couple of different ways. You can use the adaptor that comes in the box, charge it via the USB cable to a PC or even use the Switch Dock to charge it. Depending on the method you use to charge, the charging times can vary.

So, how do you identify if a Switch is getting charged?

Quite Simple. When the power cable is plugged in the Type-C USB port, the Nintendo Switch will display a tiny battery icon with a little lightning indicator as well. If you see these icons on the screen at the top, your Switch is charging up properly. However, if your Switch has been dead for a long time, then it might take some time for the icons to show up on the screen.

Now, when it comes to the LED indicators on the Switch, you might think, well, looks like an LED light is on, so it must be charging. However, the LED indicator does not provide any indication of whether your Switch is charging or not. The indicator is mainly there to let you about other connections such as when you pair your JoyCons or even when you put the Switch into TV mode.

It would be pretty neat if Nintendo could add a charging indicator that could show off three colors. Red for when the battery is critically low and is charging between 0 to 10%. The orange indicator could tell you that the Switch is charging between 10 to 80%. While the Green LED could indicator between 80% to a 100% charged battery.

So, what about the Switch Dock you might ask. Well, though it might have an LED indicator, again, it’s not used to let the user know if the Switch is actively charging itself or not. The LED is there to let you know that the output from the Switch is being displayed onto the TV Screen when put into TV mode.

Maintaining Switch Battery life

Now, we do know that the Switch’s battery can last anywhere between 4 hours to 9 hours. Of course, this depends on what game you are playing. If it is some game that is demanding on resources, then you could see something between 3 to 5 hours of battery. If it’s a game that is super simple and light like the ones that have split-screen, you could see a good 8 hours of playtime on the Switch.

One way of saving the Switch’s battery is by turning the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off when not in use. Next, you might want to turn the brightness of the display a bit down, depending on the lighting in the particular environment. One other important aspect of preserving your battery’s charge cycle is by not charging t and also not playing heavy games while it is being charged. The Switch will be fighting between allowing resources to be used versus letting its battery be charged.

Conclusion

So, there you have, the only way to find out if your Nintendo Switch is charging or not. It is kind of a shame that Nintendo hasn’t conferred the LED indicators to light up when the Switch is turned off and plugged in. A little LED indicator while charging would be quite useful. Could we see it in an update by Nintendo for it? Nobody knows for now and only time will tell when that feature eventually shows up for the Switch family.
