As we mentioned in our last news Article that Apple will bring the next beta update in a day or two and the iOS 14.2 GM & iPadOS 14.2 GM are now out. It is released before the usual date because of the annoying update notifications which appear constantly on the iOS 14.2 beta. The GM edition comes with many new features and bug fixes including the non-existent update notification. So if you are in the iOS 14.2 beta then update to iOS 14.2 GM.
The iOS 14.2 will be the first big update after the iOS 14 update. Apple released the first iOS 14.2 beta even before the release of iOS 14.1. iOS 14.2 GM build comes with a lot of new features and a lot of bug fixes. But the main change that you will notice in iOS 14.2 is UI changes. The GM edition released after the fourth beta and all beta had some new features and changes which is concluded in the GM build. The same features will also be available in the public stable iOS 14.2 update which may release next week.
Apple has released the iOS 14.2 GM and iPadOS 14.2 GM for both developers and public beta testers. The iOS 14.2 GM and iPadOS 14.2 GM comes with build number 18B91. It will be the same for the stable iOS 14.2 updates. The update is available in update size around 4GB which can slightly vary depending on the device.
iOS 14.2 GM & iPadOS 14.2 GM – What’s New
The major concern on the iOS 14.2 beta was the annoying bug that prompted update notification constantly. And you will be happy to know that it has been fixed in the iOS 14.2 GM. In fact, Apple released the iOS 14.2 GM build early because of this annoying bug.
It doesn’t come with a modem update if you are already on the iOS 14.2 beta 4. But if not then you will get to see a new modem update on your iPhone.
In the iOS 14.2 update, if you are not listening to any Music and long tap on the not playing tab in the control center then it will show some music suggestions that you can directly play from there. You can also control your home devices with the Home tab which you can find in the Control Center.
The latest iOS 14.2 GM brings a lot of new emojis near about 100 emojis from different categories like food, lifestyle, households, and more. It also comes with a new set of wallpapers that changes color according to light and dark mode on your device. We have already extracted and shared these wallpapers in one of our Articles.
As you know, the latest iPhone 12 series and iPad 2020 comes with LiDAR sensor, and to take advantage of it, Apple has added a people detection feature. It can measure the distance between the user and other peoples. But first you need to enable Magnifier from Settings and use the feature from Magnifier.

Download & Install iOS 14.2 GM and iPadOS 14.2 GM
The GM or Golden Master edition is now available for developers as well as public beta testers. It means if you are already on any of the iOS 14.2 beta then you can directly get the iOS 14.2 GM from Settings. In case if you have not registered for the beta but want to get the latest iOS 14.2 GM then you can install the update using the below link. Also if you install GM build you don’t have to install the stable iOS 14.2 update which will release next week. It is because the GM build is the same which releases as the stable build.
Install iOS 14.2 Beta Profile and iPadOS 14.2 Beta Profile
- Go to the Apple Beta Software program site.
- Then scroll down a bit and click on Sign in if you have Apple ID.
- On the next page, select the correct OS for your devices like iOS 14 or iPadOS 14.
- Scroll down till Getting Started and click on Enroll your iOS device.
- Now you need to install a profile from the next Page. For this, click on the Download Profile.
- After installing the Profile, reboot your device. And you are ready to install iOS 14.2 GM on your iPhone.
After installing the beta profile, you can go to Settings > Software Update to install the latest update on your iPhone or iPad. There is another method to install the beta update and that is using iTunes or Finder. But this method requires a computer to install the update.
