How to Use Picture in Picture Mode in iOS 14

The Picture in Picture mode is already available on Android phones for a long time. And finally, Apple has also added the most awaited feature to iPhone and iPad running on iOS 14 & iPadOS 14, respectively. Along with PiP mode, iOS 14 also brings App Library, Widgets, and some other features as well. But here we will only talk about the picture in picture mode.

Picture in Picture mode allows us to play video on a small screen while using the other application tab. It is meant for a multitasking purpose, which pins the video playback window, which we can watch while working on other apps. Like the Youtube video can be played while using Facebook or Notes or other apps.

Steps to Enable Picture in Picture Mode on iPhone & iPad

There is no need to change any Settings as the PiP mode comes by default and so it is easier to use this feature.

  1. Open the app listed above or that supports PiP mode.
  2. Play any Video in an App, such as Safari.
  3. For e.g. you can play video on YouTube in the Safari Browser.
  4. Then tap on the fullscreen icon. Enable PiP Mode in iOS 14
  5. When video changed to Fullscreen mode directly switch to home (You can use Swipe up gesture on Touch ID).
  6. It will directly switch the video to PiP mode.

You can drag the PiP window to relocate it as per your convenience. Also, you can resize the PiP screen by dragging any corner from where you want to increase the size.

We can easily control the PiP window like forward & backward the playing video. Below are some controls that will help you to use PiP mode properly.

Hide PiP Window

We can easily hide the running PiP window or witch back to the original full scream video playback. In the PiP window, there will be an icon to change to full screen, so click on it. And if you want to hide the window, then you can easily swipe the video out of the screen. After hiding the PiP window, it will show an arrow icon which you can use to unhide it.

Close PiP Window

After watching or if you don’t want to see the video anymore, then you can easily close the window. The PiP video contains a cross (X) icon, so click on it to close the PiP button.
