During the 2023 Google I/O event that took place only a couple of days back, a lot of announcements and releases were made. With that being said, Google has also made some new announcements with regard to Wear OS. Wear OS is the Android based operating system for smartwatches and it’s already running on the majority of smartwatches. So, let’s take a look at what Google has revealed about Wear OS for this year.
Wear OS 4: Smarter and More Power Efficient than Ever
Now, a smartwatch is a great way to access your texts, phone calls, and perform other basic functions without having to reach for your phone all the time. So a device like this needs to not only have the smarts but also the ability to not simply exhaust its battery while doing abnormal or basic things on your watch.
New Watch Faces With Wear OS 4
Watch faces are important. A lot of people like to have a watch face that feels the best to them. So, with Wear OS 4, you can expect a good number of new watch faces. In fact, developers will now be able to create multiple watch faces that will not only look good on your watch but will also be power efficient meaning you can have a great watch face with different complications without worrying about the battery running out.
Animated Tiles for Wear OS
With tiles on your smartwatch, you can now easily get all the information that you need from select apps right on your watch screen without having to launch the specific app. These new tiles will have new animations and transitions that change very smoothly. This makes Wear OS 4 a better-performing operating system for your smartwatch right off the bat.
Access More Apps On The Smartwatch
A new operating system version brings in new app access to your smartwatch. Apart from getting new Google Home controls on their smartwatch, users will also be able to access Gmail and the Google Calendar app easily on their watch in the coming months. That means you can read emails quickly and create events just by using your watch.
WhatsApp Is Coming To Wear OS
One of the most popular messaging platforms, WhatsApp, is making its way now to Wear OS devices. You can do almost everything with WhatsApp on your smartwatch. You can reply to your messages,ย start a new conversation, send voice notes, and also be able to answer calls made via WhatsApp. WhatsApp indeed is the platform that is making its presence everywhere and now, on watches. It is already available on wear OS play store for accounts who opted for WhatsApp beta.
New Spotify Tiles
Google has also stated that Wear OS 4 will be getting access to three new Spotify tiles. These tiles will let you play episodes from your favorite podcasts, see your most played tracks and play a track from a playlist created by Spotify DJ.
Additionally, Wear OS 4 will also bring in a new fitness tool that will display your workout streaks. With such tiles, you will be motivated more to be on track with your health and complete your fitness with the tile peloton.
Better Software Experience With Wear OS 4
Wear OS 4 will not only provide you with features but also various platforms and security updates to keep your smartwatch safe and secure. Also, there are going to be a lot of battery improvements for devices getting the Wear OS 4 update. Wear SO 4 will also give you options to take a backup of your watch and even perform a restore easily. Best of all the permissions accepted on your phone will be added to your watch right away- only if you set up the watch using your Android device.
If you own a Galaxy Watch you can expect even additional features that Samsung will bring with the new version of One UI for Smartwatch. The Wear OS 4 is also expected to bring Material You support to Galaxy Watches.
