Samsung introduced Galaxy AI about a year ago with the One UI 6.1 update for various devices. While the Galaxy AI features library has expanded since then, Chat Assist remains one of the best features. However, it was only available within the Samsung Keyboard.
Thanks to the One UI 7 Writing Assist tool, the Chat Assist features now works universally, no matter what keyboard you are using. Samsung Keyboard is good keyboard with many features, although there are better keyboards that many users prefer over the stock keyboard. Personally, I use Gboard instead of the Samsung Keyboard, so this news is particularly exciting for me.
Writing Assist is already available on the Galaxy S25 as well as One UI 7 beta running Galaxy S24. It will also arrive on other Galaxy AI-eligible devices with the stable One UI 7 update.
The Writing Assist tools works anywhere you can select text. This means you can also use the Chat Assist feature, where text is selectable.

The Writing Assist offers multiple tools including Composer, Bullet Point, Table, Spelling and Grammer, Writing Style, and Summarize. It combines Chat Assist tools as well as some other writing tools.
How to use Chat Assist while using third party keyboard
To access the chat assist and writing assist features, simply select the text you want to use these tools on. This could be the text you intend to send in the chat or mail.
Once you select the text, a new Galaxy AI icon will appear. Tap on the icon to reveal Writing Assist tools. You can then select the tool you want to use.
- Spelling and grammar tool will identify and correct errors.
- Writing style will let you select the appropriate tone for your message/selected text, such as casual or professional.
- Summarize the selected text in a concise paragraph.
- Create bullet points for easy readability or to create a list.
- Generate a table from the selected text.
- Compose the entire text based on a snippet or request.
Chat Assist on One UI 6 works only on editable text, while Writing Assist on One UI 7 works with non-editable text too, such as text on blogs, comments, and more. The only condition is that you can select the text on the screen.
If you have a Galaxy AI-eligible device, you’ll get the Writing Assist tool with the stable One UI 7 update, which is expected to be released later this month.
