Shortly after releasing Android 15 for Pixel devices, Google unveiled its plans for Android 16. The official announcement revealed that Android 16 will release earlier than Android 15, which was released in September. Now, the exact release date for Android 16 has also been leaked.
In the case of Android 15, we had to wait quite a while for its release, with no specific date to anticipate. Thankfully, this time around, we have an exact release date for Android 16.
As per the report shared by the folks at AndroidHeadlines, the stable Android 16 will release on June 3. Going forward, we can expect upcoming major Android updates within the second quarter every year.
Unlike Android 15, Android 16 will be released to AOSP as well as to Pixel devices from the same time. Android 15 was released in mid-September, however it was not available for Pixel devices until mid-October.
As you might have already known from the announcement, Google has decided to release Android 16 early for a few reasons. One of them is that the latest Android release will completely align with the release of new Pixel phones. This means, the upcoming products will have the latest Android OS, unlike this year.
This year, the Pixel 9 series was released before Android 15, so the device came with Android 14 out of the box. Since the schedule is being fixed from next year, the Pixel 10 series will come with Android 16 out of the box. This will not only impact the latest update availability for Pixel phones but also for other smartphones.
