Fire TV’s most awaited upgrade is finally here! Say goodbye to the boring UI that has been on the lineup of Fire OS devices for years! Amazon has finally announced its brand-new UI overhaul for Fire TV that will bring smoothness, a modern feel, and a dedicated home screen for different types of content.
This will be one of Amazon’s biggest updates to the Fire TV ecosystem, as they also bringing the redesigned Fire TV mobile app. And of course, there is the AI integration with Alexa, making it an even smarter voice assistant for your Fire TV devices.
What’s new in the new Fire TV UI?
The redesigned interface has a modern and clean look, with menu icons at the top of the screen. Searching for movies and shows across all installed apps and active subscriptions is faster. Meaning that when you are browsing for movies, you will see all movie titles from all streaming services that you have an active subscription to.

The UI also incorporates modernized rounded corners, new color gradients, cleaner fonts, and, most importantly, overall OS optimization and storage management. Having a quick and responsive interface is also part of the new UI rollout, which Amazon says they reworked on the underlying code to bring all of these improvements to the new UI.

Users can now pin up to 20 apps to their home screens, as compared to the previous 6. The menu button on the remote will now bring up Games, Art, and Photos, and the Ambient Experience options for you to select. Thanks to the Amazon Photos app, you can easily display all your photos on the big screen.
For ease of access, Amazon has added a new shortcut panel that gives you access to the most-used shortcuts and settings of the Fire TV. This can be accessed by long-pressing the Menu button on your Fire TV’s remote.
The addition of an AI-powered Alexa to Fire TV will now help you pick out movies or TV shows that you would like to watch based on your mood. You can also tell Alexa that you want to watch movies from specific directors or actors. Alexa can also access your watch list, give you real-time updates from sports events you are watching, and can even create an AI-generated image for your background screensaver.
If you have your photos connected to the Amazon Photos app, you can ask Alexa to display them as a screensaver, adjust smart lights, or directly watch a particular scene from a movie of your choice.

Along with the Fire TV UI, the Fire TV mobile app will also incorporate the new UI that matches your Fire TV device. The new app now lets users browse through content, create their watch list, and even play movies from the app directly to their Fire TV.

The updated Fire TV app for Android and iOS will go live starting February 2026.
How to update your Fire TV to the new UI?
The update will be rolling out in the month of February. There is no exact date, but you can expect it anytime during the month.
Select the Settings icon available in the home screen. Now, select My Fire TV or Devices and Software (this will vary on the type of Fire TV device you are using).
Choose About followed by Check for System Update. When the update is available, you can download and install it. Make sure that you have a stable internet connection and also that your Fire TV has a decent amount of free space. When the update is done, it will take a while for the Fire TV to reboot and run right away into the new Fire TV UI.
New Fire TV UI vs Google TV and Roku OS
When compared to popular smart TV UIs such as Google TV and Roku OS, the new Fire TV UI brings a fresh and modern interface – and in some ways feels similar to the Google TV UI. This is a step in the right direction for the users who are planning to switch over from Google TV to Fire TV, either through a dedicated Fire TV, a Fire TV streaming stick, or a streaming box.
When comparing the to Roku OS, it’s UI feels old and outdated for 2026. The new Fire TV UI has the shortcuts at the top and gives you the full home screen to pin your apps or browse through all your content, unlike Roku, where everything is just a bunch of blocks. Roku will have to take a leaf from the Fire TV UI redesign and level up its own UI and OS navigation.
Well, the new Fire TV UI is a step in the right direction for Amazon if they want to increase the number of Fire TV users. Stepping away from the outdated block-style and dull UI to the modern UI, Amazon is expected to bring over users from the likes of Google TV and Roku OS to experience the best in the smart TV market.
