Roku owners are in for a piece of good news. Roku has just announced the latest operating system that powers a number of TVs, streaming sticks, and boxes. The new operating system from Roku will be called Roku OS 12. Looking at how a lot of things in the world are now being powered by Artificial Intelligence, Roku is now implementing AI into Roku OS 12.
With Roku OS 12, you will be seeing improvements in the Entertainment, Local News, and Sports channels. Roku says that the best way to experience the all-new Roku OS 12 is with its own Roku-branded TVs. Yes, Roku is now launching its own lineup of Smart TVs that will be powered by Roku OS 12.
As of now, we know that there are two types of Smart TVs that will be made available. You can expect the Roku Select and Roku Plus TV series to be made available soon at your nearest Best Buy stores and also via the Roku website.
These TVs will be running from 24 inches all the way up to 75 inches meaning there’s a Roku TV for everyone across various price points. Roku says these new TVs will be coming with QLED displays powered with Dolby 4K Vision Picture tech, auto-brightness, auto-dimming as well as Dolby Atmos audio. So yes, an all-in-one top-of-the-line streaming package from Roku. Oh, and these TVs will also have WiFi 6 support out of the box.
Now, let’s dig into what’s expected to be coming in the all-new Roku OS 12 update. The new update is set to bring a new Local News category. With this Local News section, streamers will be able to watch their favorite news channels easily based wither on their current location or by choosing channels that are available across different cities in the United States. You will now be getting better news recommendations thanks to the AI integration within the Live TV Zone.
Looking around for premium channels? Roku OS 12 now has a dedicated Premium Subscriptions section. With this section, you can check out the newest channels and even subscribe to them right away. With regards to Sports Channels, Roku is slated to get popular sports channels such as CBS Sports, MLB TV, NBA League Pass, and NBC Sports – just to name a few.
Roku OS 12 will also be featuring a Continue Watching feature. This is a useful feature for streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and others. You can continue watching your movie or TV show with just a single click. More other platforms will be getting the Continue Watching feature soon.
Finally, there will also be a revamped Roku Mobile app. You get to see a dedicated Account Hub section, a streamlined Home Screen that shows you what’s left in the Continue Watching section as well as new shows and movies that you might want to stream. The app will also feature a channel guide that shows you what is playing now and what other shows and movies are expected to be aired later on. The app also lets you add up to 1,000 images per stream for your Roku screensaver.
Roku OS 12 will be rolling out in a few weeks to supported devices. In line with the main OS update, users will also be getting other monthly updates for the overall improvement and performance of the Roku device.
