If you have recently switched to LG TV, you might not be familiar with the many features or settings it offers. To help you make the most of it, we have compiled a list of some of the best features of LG TV that you should use for a better experience.

Just like any other TV brand, LG has a variety of smart TVs available on the market. Most of them have some useful features, from the LG Content Store to watching multiple content at once, using the phone as a remote, gaming features, and even more. Read on to check out the best ones in this article.

Features Every LG TV User Should Use

Since LG TV has so many features, if we list all of them, you will keep reading it for a few hours. And so in this guide, we will let you know about some good ones that are most helpful.

Use the Shortcut Buttons to Power On

You might be aware that the LG remote comes with some shortcut buttons for streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. These buttons quickly open the streaming apps without having to go through the menu.

However, you can also use these buttons on the remote even if your TV is turned off but connected to power source. For example, if you want to watch Prime Video, just press the Prime Video button on the remote, and the TV will power on and open the Prime Video app automatically.

Make Your Own Shortcut

While the shortcut buttons are helpful, the LG TV remote only has a few (mostly two) dedicated streaming service buttons available. But worry not, since it offers users the option to make their own shortcut for any app that’s available on the TV. Even make a shortcut for switching to a specific input. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: While your LG TV is On, Long-press the 0 button on the remote control.

Step 2: A window will open that shows the current shortcut you have set.

Step 3: To add a new shortcut, choose the number.

Step 4: Next, select the app or input you want to open.

After this, you can open the select app with just the button you assigned.

Quickly Jump Between Back and Fore Apps

LG TVs have an option that allows you to quickly switch between two apps with one click. Just hold down the Home button to open the previously opened app. Once you want to return to the app you were using first, press and hold the Home button.

This feature is very helpful when you are watching a movie and want to quickly check the live sports score.

Use Your Phone as a Remote

If you can’t find the LG TV’s remote, or maybe it’s not working properly, you can use your mobile phone as a remote control for the TV. Even if your remote is working fine, I recommend programming your phone as Remote for your LG TV for future use.

You will need LG ThinQ app on your phone and both TV and your phone must be on same WiFi network. Open and sign into the app. Next tap the Add Device and follow the on screen instructions. And your phone will now work as your TV Remote.

Check out our dedicated guide on how you can use the LG ThinQ app as a virtual remote for your LG smart TV.

Watch Multiple Content

If you want to watch multiple pieces of content at a time, LG TV’s Multiview feature is for you, as it splits the screen, allowing users to watch up to four pieces of content at once. It’s just like using a Monitor or Tablet. This can prove to be useful in many cases for instance when presenting a PPT, or watching something while browsing through apps. You can use two things either in side by side mode, or in a PiP mode.

To watch or open two apps together, press the Settings button and then go to Multi View. Now you can choose apps. We have a dedicated guide on how you can use Multiview on LG TV.

Share Media to Your LG TV

If you want to enjoy media from your phone on a larger screen, i.e., an LG smart TV, you can also do it using the LG ThinQ app. For this to work, you must follow the 4th feature that is using phone as remote. Here’s how you can achieve this:

Step 1: Open the LG ThinQ app and choose your TV.

Step 2: Tap Select Contents under the Share tab.

Step 3: Select the media you want to see on the TV.

Step 4: Finally, tap Play on TV, and the content will show on the LG smart TV.

Play TV Audio through Your Phone

No matter whether your TV’s speakers are not working or you don’t want to disturb anyone, you can use this feature to play the TV’s audio through your mobile phone. Here’s how you can access this setting by using the NFC tag on your remote:

Step 1: Hold your phone over the N logo below the quick-access buttons on the remote.

Step 2: You will see a notification pop-up on your mobile; tap on it.

Step 3: Select Enjoy TV Sound, and the LG TV’s audio will be streamed through your phone rather than the TV speakers.

Instant Game Response

If you are a gamer and use your TV for gaming, you need to enable the Instant Game Response feature on the TV. Once enabled, it automatically detects when you play a game and makes use of features that are designed for an optimal gaming experience, like Game Mode display pre-set, Auto Low Latency Mode, etc. Here’s how you can enable it:

Step 1: Navigate to Settings > All Settings > Picture > Additional Settings.

Step 2: Select Instant Game Response and turn on the feature of the HDMI ports that you’re using to connect your gaming consoles. On some TV models, you will find it under General > Game Optimizer.

Sort Apps

The number of apps you need to add to the LG TV keeps increasing day by day. That’s said, you may end up with a long list to scroll through for the app you want to use. However, you can change the order and sort the apps as per your convenience by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Press the Home button on the remote, and the app menu will open.

Step 2: Long-press the OK button to enter edit mode.

Step 3: Choose an app and move it.

Step 4: Once you are satisfied with the position, tap Apply.

Rename Input Ports

If you have plugged too many devices into your TV, there is a high chance that you may get confused about which port you have plugged into which device. Thankfully, for such cases, LG TVs have an option that allows users to rename inputs and represent what is connected to them. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Press and hold the Input button on the remote. Alternatively, select Home Dashboard in the app menu from the home screen.

Step 2: Click on the three-dot icon and choose Edit.

Step 3: Select Edit inputs and choose an input whose name you want to rename.

Step 4: Next, type a new name using the keyboard.

Step 5: Repeat the steps for all the inputs you want to rename.

Step 6: Finally, click on the Save button.

So, these are some of the best features that you should use if you are a LG smart TV user. Do let us know if you have any questions related to the article.
