Whether you’ve just acquired the freshly released Pixel 7a or one of the earlier models from the Pixel 7 series, you can configure a dual SIM setup on your Pixel smartphone. Similar to their predecessors, the phones in the Pixel 7 series come equipped with both a pSIM slot and an eSIM slot.

The days of lugging around two separate devices are behind us, all courtesy of the eSIM feature present in the Pixel 7 series. If you’re eager to learn how to set up an eSIM on your Pixel 7 series device, you’ve landed in the right spot. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process step by step.

What is eSIM on Pixel 7 series?

Google is one of the first smartphone OEMs to adopt eSIM technology on their Pixel devices. For unawares, eSIM is an embedded SIM card that is directly integrated with the smartphone’s PCB and eliminates the need for a physical SIM card (pSIM). This new technology lets users easily switch carriers or plans with ease.

Preparations and Prerequisites:

  • Confirm that your carrier provides eSIM support for your chosen plan.
  • WiFi or Cellular Data Plan is required to download the eSIM.

How to Activate eSIM on Pixel 7 series

There are two different ways to set up an eSIM on Pixel 7 series smartphone, fortunately, both approaches are straightforward. These are different depending on the model you own, if you own an unlocked model, then you can easily set up an eSIM, whether if you own a carrier-locked device, the procedure varies slightly due to the fact that the phone’s IMEI number is already associated with the carrier, so let’s take a look at each method in detail.

Setup eSIM on Unlocked Pixel 7 Series Models

First things first, you need to contact your carrier through their customer care helpline or chat. The carrier’s team will guide you through identity verification procedures before initiating an eSIM request. Upon successful authentication, they will proceed to file an eSIM request on your behalf. Once approved, the carrier service will send you a QR code which you will scan in later steps to activate it on your phone. Once you have a QR code available, you can follow these steps to set up an eSIM on your smartphone:

Note: Before moving ahead, make sure to connect your Pixel 7, 7a, or 7 Pro to a WiFi network, you can do it easily by navigating to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet > choose the WiFi Network.
