HONOR smartphones are gaining a lot of popularity lately. This is primarily because of its strong hardware and feature-rich custom UI. Additionally, the price-to-feature ratio of Honor devices is a major draw for users.

If you’ve recently bought a Honor device or are looking to purchase one, there are a few settings you should to change on your device first. These settings will not only improve your overall user experience but also elevate the performance of your device to an extent. Let’s have a quick look at it.

First Settings You Should Change on Your HONOR Device

HONOR, like any other smartphone brand, comes with certain default settings, but these options are not always optimized for the best performance. As a result, some users may complain that their device does not perform as well as advertised or experience issues with usability. By adjusting the settings mentioned below, you are likely to enhance your experience and enjoy using your device much more than with the default settings.

Change the Display Refresh Rate

Almost all the newer HONOR devices come with a high refresh rate panel. But despite having a high refresh rate panel, the display refresh rate is default set to standard 60Hz. Brands say that this is done to prevent high battery usage. But the compromise on the overall user experience isn’t worth it for a few minutes of increase in battery usage time. So, here’s how you can change your display refresh rate to 120Hz.

Go to Settings, now scroll down and click on “Display & Brightness”. Now scroll down, find the “Screen Refresh Rate” option and tap on it. Now select either “Dynamic” or “High” based on your preference. Dynamic means the system will automatically provide the best refresh rate depending on what’s happening on the screen. Whereas, “High” means your screen will always be set to the highest refresh rate.

Enable Pure Mode in the Status Bar

HONOR devices run on the company’s proprietary user interface, MagicOS. While this UI in particular is good and smooth, some of its component like the status bar looks outdated and irritating. This is primarily because of the weird spacing and dated icons in the status bar. However, HONOR has provided its user with an option to make the status bar look a little better and it’s called the “Pure Mode”. Let’s see how you can turn it on.

Go to Settings, then Notifications & Status Bar, now click on “Status Bar” and turn on “Pure Mode.” Pure Mode only shows important information such as Wi-Fi, network signal and battery which therefore provides a minimal and better-looking status bar.

Enable Smart Charge to Protect Battery

Newer HONOR devices come with the support of their proprietary fast-charging tech. While the brand always claims it to be safe, there’s always speculation in the mind that it may damage the battery shelf in the long run. To prevent it, HONOR smartphones come with an option called “Smart Charge” which delays the charging past 80% after intelligently learning the user’s routine to maximize the battery life. Turning it on is pretty simple, let’s see how.

Go to Settings >> Battery >> More Battery Settings. Now turn on the toggle present next to the “Smart Charge” option.

Turn on Smart Battery Capacity

Another option HONOR provides its users to extend the lifespan of the battery is “Smart Battery Capacity.” This is a very interesting feature. It uses artificial intelligence to finish charging the battery just short of its actual peak capacity. This will have a slight impact on the battery usage time of your device but will be helpful in the long run. Turning it on doesn’t require any extra step. Just follow this: Settings >> Battery >> More Battery Settings >> Smart Battery Capacity.

Enable Google’s Circle to Search

Circle to Search was recently introduced on its devices by HONOR. It’s a pretty amazing and useful feature. Using this tool, users can simply search, translate or copy anything from their screen with just a simple touch and hold. Once you get used to it, there’s no way to go back. Let’s see how to turn it on.

Before anything, Go to Settings. Now scroll down and look for “System & Updates.” Now click on “System Navigation” and enable “Circle to Search.”

Other Important Settings

– Turn on Always-on-Display to get the latest information without unlocking your device while also preserving the battery. You can access this setting by going to Settings >> Home Screen & Style >> Always on Display.

– As we all know how irritating junk files can be. It takes random space on our devices and therefore reduces the overall space availability. It’s also not very easy to remove all junk files in a go. But if you’re a HONOR device, you can remove junk files directly from the Settings. Go to Settings >> Storage >> Click on the โ€œClean Upโ€ button >> Junk Files. It will now show available junk files system-wide in one place. You can erase it easily from there.

– A feature that you should turn off your HONOR device is โ€” Wi-Fi & Bluetooth location scanning. While this feature enables apps and services to use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for more accurate location detection, it can significantly drain battery. To turn this off, go to Settings >> Location >> Advanced Settings >> Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.
