Ask Photos, a new AI-based Google Photos, is now rolling out as Early Access for select users in the US. The feature was first announced at the Google I/O event in May this year.
Over the past few years, Google has integrated a bunch of AI features into its products, including Google Photos. Now, another AI feature, Ask Photos for Google Photos has just started rolling out.
Users can join the wait list by going to Google Labs > Join the Waitlist (under Ask Photos) and enter your email. You may get a mail when you get access, or you can also check in the Google Photos app regularly.

Early Access to Ask Photos is now available to select users in the US. The feature uses latest Gemini models and takes the Google Photos search experience to another level. It is a conversational search feature and gives you results as if you are asking someone a question. It understands the context of your photo gallery which means you can ask about anything related to your gallery.
Here are some examples: โWhere did we camp last time we went to Yosemite?โ or โWhat did we eat at the hotel in Stanley?โ
You get the answer in reply along with the photos found based on your query. Using this, you can look for photo memories, photo of a particular place or person, and more.
Besides finding memories, you can also ask Photos for pictures that you can use for a particular event. And it will instantly give you the plan as well as all the photos for your plan from your Photo library. You can easily access Ask Photos feature from the last tab in Google Photos.
Google also talked about the problem of large photos library and that they have improved the way you search for photos in Google Photos.
Google Photos is used by both Android and iPhone users globally. A common problem that we all face is finding an specific photo from the large collection of photos. According to Google, nearly half a billion people use Search in Photos every month.
With the improved Google Photos search feature, users can now describe the photo to find them easily from the library. Users will get exact photos they want in a short time depending on how large the library is. Many times we give up searching for photos because we have to scroll a lot, but this will not happen anymore as Ask Photo is available to users.
Describing the photo will be enough to find it. You can search for photo description like โme and my kids having fun at the water park,โ โJohn playing football in the school field.โ
In case there are multiple results, you can also sort the search by most recent and best match. The describe feature is currently available in English language for Android and iOS. It will be available in more languages over the coming weeks.
