Apple has just released new updates for older iPhones and iPads. The company is seeding iOS 16.7.15 and iOS 15.8.7 for older iPhones and iPadOS 15.8.7 for iPad. The incremental upgrade brings newer security updates and enhancements to the older devices.
Apple is seeding the iOS 16.7.15 update with 20H380 build number, whereas iOS 15.8.7 comes with 19H411 firmware version. It is a small upgrade that you can quickly update your iPhone or iPad to the newest software update. In terms of compatibility, iOS 16.7.15 is available to iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone SE (2nd Gen), and newer models.
In terms of changes, Apple’s official release notes confirm that the update includes important security fixes. The update brings security updates related to the sophisticated Coruna exploit that was disclosed by Google a few days ago. According to Apple, the issues had already been resolved in earlier iOS 16 and iOS 17 updates; today’s releases simply extend those fixes to older devices.
If you have an eligible iPhone, you can install the latest iOS 16.7.15 / iOS 15.8.7 update from Settings > General > Software Update. Please ensure your iPhone is charged at least 50%. Before installing the update, make sure to back up your device and avoid updating in high temperatures.
