Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 Goes Live for Pixel Devices

Summarize This Article:

Google has just released the first QPR1 beta of Android 17 for compatible Pixel devices. The update will arrive after the stable Android 17 release, which seems imminent following last week’s fourth beta rollout. The first QPR release addresses quite a few bugs and enhances the overall user experience.

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 is compatible with all Pixel devices starting from the Pixel 6 series up through the Pixel 10 lineup. The update is also available for the recently launched Pixel 10a. Google is rolling out the latest software upgrade to compatible phones with the CP31.260403.005.A1 build number.

For unawares, QPR is the Quarterly Platform Release, which refers to beta updates that arrive every quarter, packing bug fixes and new features. They frequently release alongside a Pixel Feature Drop, giving Pixel owners a chance to test major updates and share feedback with Google ahead of the stable public rollout.

In terms of changes, the update addresses the printing crash issue under low-ink conditions, the Terminal app triggering ANR errors, and a couple of audio-related issues. Here are the complete details.

  • Fixed a crash in the Default Print Service occurring during low ink conditions that prevents users from completing print jobs. (Issue #487545419)
  • The Terminal app triggers an Application Not Responding (ANR) error that results in the application and device becoming unresponsive. (Issue #497465940)
  • Resolved an issue where uncontrollable hardware audio processing on the voice communication path caused distortion and phase cancellation in VoIP applications. (Issue #494843726)
  • Direct audio output may fail to open on devices using the AIDL audio HAL when playing audio streams longer than five seconds. (Issue #372064012)

Android 17 QPR1 beta 1 is now available for every eligible Pixel device owner. Alternatively, you can also manually install the factory image, but enrolling in the beta program is the most convenient and straightforward approach.

Once you enroll your Pixel device in the Android beta program, you’ll receive the first beta of Android 17 QPR1 through an OTA update. This update doesn’t require resetting the device, which means no data loss. However, it’s still advisable to back up your data before installing any update.

If you want to manually update your Pixel to the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1, then you can download OTA files and factory images from this official link.
