Sony has kick-started its Android 16 rollout, with the update now live for the Xperia 1 VII. If you own the Xperia 1 VII, you can try out the new features after upgrading to the new software upgrade.
Sony is seeding the anticipated Android 16 upgrade with the 71.1.A.2.68 version number. The Xperia 1 VII was launched with the Android 15 operating system, and the smartphone is now receiving its first major software upgrade. Despite being a major upgrade, it weighs 1.1GB in size, so you can quickly install it on your smartphone.
For the time being, the update is in a rollout phase and available to select users in Europe; a broader rollout should commence in a matter of time. If you’re residing in Europe and own the Xperia 1 VII, you can check for the new software upgrade. Here’s a screenshot shared by Reddit user Mirrormaster85.

As of now, Sony has not officially confirmed the Android 16 rollout. While the shared screenshot doesn’t reveal the update’s full changelog for the Xperia 1 VII, one user has confirmed that it includes the August 2025 security patch level.
If you own Sony Xperia 1 VII, the update can arrive anytime. Please ensure your phone is running the latest available software upgrade. The update will be available over the air. So make sure to check for update regularly.
You can check for the update in Settings > About Phone > Software Update > check for the new updates. Once the update is available, create a backup and charge your phone to at least 50% before updating the device.
