Google begins the beta testing phase for the first Android 16-based Pixel feature drop update. The Android 16 QPR1 Beta is available for Android 16-eligible devices that have opted into the Android beta program. This includes the following devices:
- Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
- Pixel 8a
- Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold
- Pixel 9a
The first beta of Android 16 QPR1 is available with build number BP31.250502.008. This beta is based on the May 2025 Android security patch.
The first QPR beta testing phase will continue for at least three months, and its stable build will be released by September later this year. Of course, we are yet to see the official Android 16, which will be released to the public soon.
The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 brings some Material 3 Expressive changes that Google showcased at the Android Show of Google I/O. These changes include visual changes to notifications, quick settings, the lock screen, and the launcher.
If you own an eligible Pixel phone and want to join the testing phase of the upcoming feature drop update, you have the option to join the beta program. Alternatively, you can also manually install the factory image, but enrolling in the beta program is the most convenient and straightforward approach.
Once you enroll your Pixel device in the Android beta program, youโll receive the first beta of Android 16 QPR1 through an OTA update. This update doesnโt require resetting the device, which means no data loss. However, itโs still advisable to back up your data before installing any update.
