Androidโs next OS version is shaping up. Yes, Google began work on Android 16 towards the end of 2024, and now, we finally have a good look at the redesigned elements of Android 16, which will soon be rolling out to supported Android smartphones. Following the Material You design language, Android 16โs redesign this year is called Material 3 Expressive.
This new redesign will soon be seen on Googleโs Pixel lineup via the Android 16 update and several smartwatches that will be updated to Wear OS 6. Androidโs stock UI has been pretty bland for a long time, and hopefully, with the new Material 3 Expressive, the UI will be pleasing to the eyes.
Whatโs in Store for Googleโs Android 16 Material 3 Expressive?
The new Material 3 Expressive redesign for Android 16 makes the UI elements more satisfying and makes it feel like the phone is responding to every gesture or action in the form of springy animations and dynamic haptic feedback/vibrations. Having responsive UI elements makes the device fun to use and gives the user a pleasant experience.
More Blur Across UI Elements
Google is also implementing background blur when you pull up the Quick Settings and notifications shade. This blur effect will also be seen when you switch between your recent apps. Material 3 Expressive will also bring in dynamic color themes and new typography elements to the UI.
Even with all the new responsive animation and feedback that Android 16 is going to bring, these redesigns will not be impacting battery life-at least that is what Google says.
New Icons and Live Notifications
The status bar on Android 16 is finally getting new icons and Live notifications from specific apps, such as delivery, navigation, and ride-share, will now display a pill that you can tap on to see the live status on the lock screen as well as the Always on Display screen.
New UI Components, Shapes, and Color Options
Android 16โs Material 3 Expressive will also bring new components to first-party Google apps, such as button groups, FAB menu, loading indicators, a new split button, and toolbars. There will also be 25 new shapes and a spectrum of color options that will be added to/used with apps such as Google Messages that will help you customize the chat screen.
You can expect Android 16 to come with not only new features and under-the-hood improvements, but also on the UI side of things, such as animations, haptic feedback, and different customization options that let you truly make your Android 16 smartphone unique. Users will also get to see these cool new changes on their smartwatches when Wear OS 6 rolls out in the coming months.
