Sony Android 17 eligible devices based on official policy

Summarize This Article:

Google released the first Android 17 beta yesterday for testing purposes. The update is set to bring a range of improvements and new features to Android devices, including Material 3 Expressive enhancements, Live Notification updates, a redesigned desktop mode, and more. We will get to see more new features coming in the coming beta updates.

We already know which Pixel devices are eligible to receive the next-version of Android updates. But what about other OEMs? While most manufacturers haven’t confirmed their update plans yet, it has been confirmed which Sony devices will receive the update.

Based on Sony’s official software support policy, we’ve compiled the list of Sony Xperia devices compatible with the forthcoming Android 17 update. Sony’s German store confirms the Xperia 10 VI will receive 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates. The same is the case with the Xperia 1 VI.

Whereas the newer models, Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 1 VII, are eligible for 4 OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates, meaning the duo will receive Android 19 upgrade when released. So, yes, there are a bunch of phones that are compatible with the anticipated software upgrade. Let’s dive into the list.

  • Sony Xperia 10 VI
  • Sony Xperia 1 VI
  • Sony Xperia 10 VII
  • Sony Xperia 1 VII

Sadly, none of the phones from the Xperia V series is eligible to get the Android 17 update. All these phones have two years of OS updates support.

Talking about the release timeline, we can expect Sony to release the update after 3-4 months of public release of Android 17. In context, Sony released the Android 16 update for Xperia 1 VII after four months of public release.

Stable Android 17 should arrive at Google I/O in May, though a June release is possible. Assuming a June launch, Sony Xperia devices would likely receive the update around August or September.
